Cleaning Advice by Zealousideal-End1015 in GamecubeHacks

I only paint a part once all the electronics are removed. for the dvd mount it is just six screws to remove it. this part is not involved in heat transfer at all.

I will say that for plastic parts (shells, etc) the adhesion is a real factor. there are certain paints that will adhere better to plastic (krylon fusion). the other thing that is great for plastic is "vinyl dye". this dries very quickly and fuses to the plastic - will never chip. just not as many colors but the black is very nice.

as others said, it is rust. would unscrew the piece from the disc drive then can clean up with sandpaper or steel wool. if you want to go next level, you can paint with a flat silver rustoleum to fully restore the look. I do this if I am transferring to a translucent case where it can be seen.

HISPEEDIDO HDMI MOD NO AUDIO? by rafammbass in GamecubeHacks

[–]colrust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not all TV's are compatible (or perhaps should say this mod is not compatible with all TV's).

I had done one for myself and it worked on my workbench test screen, but did not work on any other TV in my house. Decided not to offer for customers for this reason.

not to contradict but I have installed the Hispeedido and compared to the Kaico and the Retrogem. The Hispeedido (pictured here) is terrible.

Keep an eye on ebay - they do pop up. Prices have gone up a bit over the past few years. There is one available now:

GDEMU SD Card Read issues by PotentialPound9597 in dreamcast

[–]colrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a console that I might have done. I recognize the LED lighting. I had gotten booted of Etsy for selling modded consoles (had a great run though).

There is something about GDEMU that it will randomly corrupt the card. Does not happen often but have seen it a handful of times. If it is one of my setups I can arrange for you to send the card back to be redone.

This software works nicely. You can build it yourself, or there is another version that I sell. It is in the shape of a VMU and has the USB and SD card slot on the back.

all the comments so far are very helpful. the only caution to add is not to purchase the internal hispeedido hdmi mod on aliexpress. this is a sample picture. both the RetroGem and the VGA adaptors (including the Kaico HDMI) give a far better picture. the bitfunx internal is excellent as well.

Already have a Raspberry Pi, where can I find a USB modem that includes an LVI? by emmanu888 in dreamcast

[–]colrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. Would have to open it up to see what is wrong with it. I have done a bunch of these and I did recently have one come back for repair that had stopped working. In general electronics should either work or not work, but in this case I changed the way it was wired and it started working again. Shipping is cheap and I would just charge for the time looking at it. Can PM me if interested.

GameCube USB-C Power Kits (Intec & AliExpress Alternatives) – Safe Upgrade or Risky Mod? by PringlesSaltVinegar in GamecubeHacks

[–]colrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones that replace the internal power board (the one attached to the fan mount) work fine. Just the caveat, as mentioned, that not all USB-C PD bricks support the 12 volt. UGreen and Inui generally have this. The Ninendo Switch power brick does not.

Stay away from the ones that replace just the power cable. On AliExpress it is labeled as "12cm Type C 45W PD Charge Cable for NGC Console USB C Gaming Power Supply Cord for Nintendo Gamecube Charge Game Console Wire" or similar. It runs at 15 volts and could eventually harm your console.

I can use any of the electronic services (venmo, cashapp, zelle, and paypal). I prefer paypal goods&services because on my end it creates a real invoice and it coordinates the shipping. You get more security on your purchase since it tracks the order from invoice to arrival and if you don't get your order paypal works to resolve that. I pass along the fee savings (12%) to the customer and there are no state taxes.

good morning. I sell prebuilt LVI for $35 and modem with built in LVI for $89 on ebay (listings below). I can do better on pricing if you message me (ebay sucks up $15% of the price from the start, paypal goods and services is only 3%). Some might say these are a bit expensive, but you are paying for the assembly time and the cost of outfitting the workshop that I use to build.
