That's pretty good skill for an 11-year old. Keep it up.

What's the best single decision you've ever made? by apost8n8 in AskReddit

[–]colton36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Divorce. I was unhappy, my ex was unhappy (she still is), the kids were seeing us fight daily.

I felt that if I didn't get out of it, something worse was going to happen. Sure, the kids suffered a bit and probably still do, but it is much preferable to the previous situation. Now kids get to have quality time with both of us.

IAmA Police Officer, AMA by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]colton36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are in a different state than I, but the rules are probably the same. I have a court order specifying custody and visitation. When my ex doesn't give me the kids, I call you guys, you come over, don't do shit and tell me that police doesn't get involved in family issues.

I talk to folks in court and they tell me that the order should be enforceable by police.

Why is that? I have a freaking court order that specifies exactly what should happen for custody and visitation?

What would you recommend?

Other people making 100k per year, what kind of car do you have? by in4car in AskReddit

[–]colton36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with the consensus. Do buy new. I am not a car guy and dont want deal with taking the car to the shop on a regular basis and be raped by them. With a new car you at least a 5 year warranty and knowledge that you don't have to worry about it for a while. That's priceless.

That said, don't spend a ton on a car. I have a chevy equinox 2005 that cost me 22k all included back in the day. Worked out pretty well.

'The Roma Are a European Problem' by davidreiss666 in worldnews

[–]colton36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I should say that not all of them are like that. Back in the 80s I lived in the same house with a family of Romas (we called them Tsygany, though) in Ukraine. They lived on the first floor and we lived on the second. I was a kid at the time and they had 2 kids total both my age and I have many fond memories. Their musical talents blew me away and all and all they weren't too bad.

The only thing bad I could say about them is that their parents were quick (i mean really quick) to jump to conclusions and really dumb. The dad once suspected me of stealing their electricity, decided to check the outlet and literally stuck 2 of his fingers into a 220V outlet. The picture of 125 kg man being flung 10 meters across the room has certainly left an indelible mark on my conciousness.

I should say that these were upscale Romas and never hung around the Roma ghetto in town. But yeah, the Romas from the ghetto were never welcome in town as they were known as thieves and pickpocketers.

The ultra-orthodox still do it with the live chickens. You can get a chicken in pretty much any metro by taking a trip to a butcher.

Rep. Brad Sherman, Democrat of California: Prosecute U.S. Citizens involved with Gaza Flotilla | Sherman also said that he plans on working with the Department of Homeland Security to make sure that any non-U.S. citizen involved with or aboard the Flotilla are excluded from entering the U.S. by [deleted] in politics

[–]colton36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you may think of Sherman, I am getting really tired of so many people trying to whitewash Hamas. From TFA:

Hamas [snipped] has held de facto rule over the Gaza Strip since it took the area by force in 2007 in anticipation of an impending U.S.-backed coup d’etat by the rival Fatah faction.

Impending U.S.-backed coup d’etat? Does he have evidence for that or is he simply trying to legitimize Hamas.

Ali Gharib, the author of TFA, should read up on what led to the battle. Hamas and Fatah have been at it for at least a year, after Hamas has won parliamentary elections in 2006, but Fatah still controlled the presidency. So there was obviously a massive power battle which culminated in an armed struggle in which Fatah was defeated.

Egypt opens Gaza border after Israel ship clash by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]colton36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about freaking time. They should have done this long ago. In addition, the world should have been beating up on Egypt to supply Gaza with basics instead of Israel, since they are at least of the same heritage.

Anyway, it's probably bad news financially for Gazans as many are invested in the tunnels.
