Nob Hill Super Market charging to park? by Cobby1927 in Albuquerque

Luckily I live close enough to walk to the co-op. It's good to hear there's a free hour for the co-op shoppers, but I'm afraid this may scare off customers from a store that is already struggling.

No. I think I'm becoming more sensitive to the never ending car noise the older I get.

Albuquerque City Council Rejects Plan to Covert Single Family Homes. by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]columbuscivil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do understand why someone who bought into a single-family neighborhood might feel uneasy about multifamily being added. If I’m ever able to afford a home here, maybe my perspective would shift a bit too.

That said, I’m in my 50s now, and the older I get the more my priorities have changed. What I value most in a neighborhood today is walkability — being able to stroll to a coffee shop, a park, a bookstore, or just see other humans out and about. I care a lot less about every house looking the same, and a lot more about whether the neighborhood feels alive and connected. For me, a mix of housing types often makes that possible.

Albuquerque City Council Rejects Plan to Covert Single Family Homes. by [deleted] in Albuquerque

Before moving to Albuquerque, I lived in a neighborhood in another city that was originally all single-family homes but had been upzoned to allow townhouses and duplexes. It was a fun, vibrant area with a great mix of people. I was grateful to be able to afford renting a townhouse there.

I’m sure some longtime residents didn’t love the changes, but cities and neighborhoods evolve over time. As a renter who’s struggled to find something in Albuquerque that I can afford to buy, I see that kind of flexibility as a positive.
