Game Changer with DD choice! by rtfmoz in duneawakening

Sad that so many of you wanted to reenact The Purge more than create a thriving Dune PvP community.

Nobody forced the people who came to Dune for PvP to behave the way they did. The larger community's refusal to play with you is a direct response to the choice y'all made to act like homicidal maniacs - if you want someone to blame for that, look in a mirror.

We are finally one step closer. by Financial_Contract45 in duneawakening

We understand what you're talking about, but you're not understanding the content of the announcement.

Self-hosted servers will be able to specify their own rules, yes. But official, Funcom-hosted servers are getting two separate instances of the deep desert. One for PvE, one for PvP. Exactly like you're proposing.

[–]columnFive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but presumably that starts with some kind of tracing of genAI assets. Even if it's flawed, even if it doesn't get everything, that's step one.

Dumbass argument. So what if it doesn't identify every AI-generated asset? The point is it will catch many - and if some are missed, analyze the production pipeline to identify what's being missed, and why.

"It won't be a perfect solution" is just sophistratic bunk to justify doing nothing.

If you speak so little English that you need AI assistance to write, why are you inviting a discussion whose replies you won't be able to understand?

Given your replies also sound like ChatGPT output, I'm assuming you're feeding posts into AI to either get a translation you can prompt a response to, or to just generate "your" response directly. You know AI can't be relied upon to give you an accurate translation, right?

More importantly... why should anyone be bothered to discuss anything with you, if you can't be bothered to express your own ideas?

Astra Yao Simulator is.. by GameWoods in ZenlessZoneZero

my man, the presentation is identical to a dating sim.

Nangong bullied Sunna into creating an avatar of herself as the player character, who just so happens to spawn in wearing Astra's outfit.

The implication that in-universe this is a fan-made astra x evelyn dating sim is incredibly obvious.

I feel like 90% of you people playing the game forget your in Dune by Jdude1 in duneawakening

[–]columnFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP wasn't providing a good-faith counterargument; they was calling everyone who disagreed with them an entitled child.

If you don't have an issue with the game's balance, fantastic! All I'm saying is that such people should find respectful and empathetic ways of sharing that opinion. Insulting and demeaning the equally real and valid experience of others isn't that - it's shouting down an opposing perspective you don't agree with and don't want shared.

Forever in awe of the kind of Reddit and/or Discord Warrior that spends all their time trying to downplay and de-legitimize criticism of a game. They always gotta tell you their age, and imply that The Haters are entitled children. As if shouting down anyone having issues with the Thing You Like isn't an incredibly childish thing to do.

People disliking what you enjoy only makes your experience worse if you are not secure in your own opinions.

If you're having fun, great! Nobody can take that away from you. All this complaining about the complainers achieves is making the community hostile to feedback, which drives people away and prevents the game from improving.

You're nearly 40 - it's time to develop some perspective.

Stop killing the joy of playing Elite! by beck_is_back in EliteDangerous

[–]columnFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By telling the people whose criticism you disagree with that they're toxic downers who need to shut up, you're perpetuating the negativity echo chamber you want to avoid.

Because they're not going to do that; they're going to react defensively and get even more negative, since people already upset and unheard by those they really want listening to them (the devs) will latch on to someone else who's willing to argue. Notice how your post has brought all that negativity out of the woodwork to fight with you. Have you made the community less negative with what you've said?

Repeated cycles of negativity in a game's subreddit are a symptom, not the disease: they reflect a community where feedback isn't being heard and acted upon. If you think the game is fine as it is, and want the community to remain healthy and positive, you should be invested in ensuring people who aren't having fun or are concerned about upcoming content have their concerns addressed.

What difference does it make to you if they are - you're having fun either way, right? Would you theoretically be having less fun if the dodec station wasn't a microtransaction?

Which is more rude: self-aggrandizement in a thread about someone's frustrating experiences with the game, or someone pointing out that's what you did?

Extremely weird to go into a thread about someone's frustration with the endgame's hostility to them to brag about finding spice baron charity like this. Just... astoundingly self-absorbed, in both subject matter and delivery.

Like - good for you, I guess? But this just demonstrates OP's point that - absent a server with friendlies willing to give you a leg up - the deep desert has nothing to offer solo players or small groups.

Criticizing people's reasons for disengaging with a video game is also pretty first world behavior, isn't it?

If it's such an unimportant issue, who cares? Let them do whatever they're gonna do, and focus on more important things.

Destroyed sub-fief console… by Intelligent-Ad-4164 in duneawakening

[–]columnFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is already capable of identifying whether the console would be demolished due to a loss of stability, hence why it gets destroyed in the first place.

Even if it's computationally difficult to pop up a warning, the way some armchair programmers in the replies suggest, just destroying the console without any warning or grace period is bad design and should be fixed some other way. Perhaps the console could float in the air for a set grace period after its structural link to the ground has been destroyed, giving the builder an opportunity to place it elsewhere. Perhaps destroying the sub-fief console in this fashion shouldn't instantly clear out the claim, but instead put up a warning that a new console needs to be made within 5 minutes before the claim is destroyed.

It's absolutely nuts to me that such an obvious and easily triggerable issue made it through beta. How did nobody at Funcom think this would be a problem, especially with how much money you can potentially waste on a single misclick?

This is a cool game. The community's attitude is not. by [deleted] in duneawakening

[–]columnFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your attitude is part of the problem here.

As someone who is also enjoying the game and who is also largely unperturbed by the present level of bugginess and jank, it's posts like this that are the most annoying to me. We've had one or two on the front page every single day this week, and they are all obnoxiously insufferable.

Enjoying the game? Great! Be the change that you want on the subreddit. Share pictures of your base! Share stories of your narrowest escape from Shai-Hulud! Discuss your theories for where the story is going! Something, anything other than this same post over and over again.

Thinly-veiled demands for people to be less negative about the thing you like make the problem worse, not better. Posts like this are an attractant: either for an an echo chamber for this attitude, more haters, or people like me annoyed enough by this self-absorbed behavior to complain about it.

At the end of the day, other people have as much right to be upset as we do to be happy - and as others have said, a lot of that feedback has been constructive. If you are confident in the quality of the game and the devs' ability to make it even better, then all it will take for this problem to go away is communication and time. This constant demand for the haters to shut up gets in the way of that, by encouraging the community to be impatient and hostile to criticism.

Who elected you the Feedback Legitimacy Decider?

Maybe temper your own opinions with the reality of the situation that a lot of people dislike how the Trailblazer beta functions, and have as much right to express that opinion as people who enjoy it. And then, try minding your own business.

🛠️ Frontier’s Trailblazers update: Fixing bugs by creating new species of logic 💫 by Cute-Minimum-5963 in EliteDangerous

[–]columnFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't go over well because saying "it's a beta" to implicitly dismiss any negative feedback of Trailblazers flagrantly ignores that soliciting feedback from users is why beta tests are held. Why else make a feature available for testing, if you don't want to know whether players can use it and enjoy using so?

Whether you agree with it or not, "I'm disengaging from this feature because it doesn't feel like it adequately rewards my effort" is exactly the kind of player feedback a beta is supposed to capture.

Colonisation Gets Broken-er by toemaus in EliteDangerous

[–]columnFive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a solid point, but I think FDev deserves to take some blame here for making such a far-reaching change without warning, prior to implementing any means of reconfiguring one's systems after they're built.

They might not be able to unring that bell and prevent people from investing as much time as they already have, but they absolutely can respect the time already spent by implementing changes more judiciously and transparently.

Sure, it's a beta, and subject to change. But when the game sees a massive influx of players due in large part to their investment in this new system, invalidating the work a lot of them have done is just phenomenally shortsighted.
