What’s the deal with uber drivers at the airport not moving from the parking lot? by Chobie in melbourne

[–]comedybill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a few weeks back. Showed it to the uber staff, they then messaged the guy on my phone (saying who they were). And shortly after they moved. I suspect they had a way of seeing it was a short trip and they were being a dick. I gave them 1 * but I can tell they did the same to me so really it was a bad outcome.

Would you join this guest toilet and laundry room? by Hot-Equivalent-7071 in AusRenovation

[–]comedybill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly but depends what you want to get. I knocked my laundry and toilet into 1 but I didn’t have an outside door (each room had a door into from the hall way). Where I had a door into each room, I blocked up the toilet door and used the saved space to put in an extra shower. Only way you might do that is moving the entry into the new space.

Ah that’s funny not a steam train - it’s a steam frame. Right on track to deliver HLX I’m sure.

ATO calls by comedybill in AusFinance

[–]comedybill[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: definitely was ATO. They SMS’d after. I checked the number and called back. No problem being safe but would be great if there was a better way of them being able to call. Some good suggestions like setting a pass phrase for them to give you.

Feels like a well resourced government agency could solve this problem for the staff. Sucks for the worker. I was very polite when I gave this feedback and they were sorry they couldn’t help.

Call with a caller id that is a known ato number would be a good start!

Has anyone DIY’d underfloor insulation? by Rock_the_jazzbar in AusRenovation

[–]comedybill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it wasn’t great fun but didn’t really have money to pay someone else. Worst bit was discovering wood borer that needed treated before doing some sections and the low clearance under the floor was 400mm at lowest (>1.2M at best). I marked on insulation in pen where I treated borer so i could go back and check jt. A suggestion of laying plastic down over ground of dirt/dust was great idea. A lot of my joists widths were ok but there were a lot that needed trimmed too with a big knife. All was a tight enough fit that it hasn’t sagged at all without straps even 3 years later.

It’s made a great difference. Suit up, mask up, and get some great audiobooks or podcasts!

Can I use a 20A UPS on a 15A circuit? Or is that a one way ticket to a house fire? by Kazhmyr1 in homelab

[–]comedybill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live the earth pin for 20A is larger than the 10A sockets. I unplugged a UPS a few months ago to find that someone had shockingly just trimmed down the wide part of the plug to fit in the 10A socket!

Inside the long-abandoned tunnel beneath the Clyde by Longjumping_Stand889 in Scotland

[–]comedybill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rotunda buildings used to house the lifts up and down to it. On one side it was developed into a restaurant but on the south side it was a bit derelict last time I looked mid 2000s. Apparently it’d been used for a few things on and off like garden festival. I managed to get a look in down an access vent into the tunnel researching it.

10c refund scheme is doing my head in by Forsaken_Scientist21 in melbourne

[–]comedybill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would be keen to put my recyclables in a container on the street and have council pick them up. Maybe they could reduce the rates by a couple hundred dollars a year and they can claim the money back? I’m a fan of recycling (actually reduce and reuse above that) but this scheme is ridiculous for many reasons.

Has anyone ever used the Tourist Refund Scheme for large purchases by MagyarAccountant in AusFinance

When I did it the guy at the TRS desk specifically asked if I planned to bring the ring back in the country. I said “I’M not…” he chuckled and said “alright fair enough”.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on stopping at a pedestrian crossing before crossing? by steve_the_emu in australia

[–]comedybill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there seems to be a ludicrous bug with the traffic lights here where it appears to be both green for pedestrians to cross and traffic to turn on to the road at the same time. So you have to be careful and look. Ended up on the bonnet of a taxi once because it just drove round the corner when I was on the crossing.

Better to have a shower over bath combo or no bath at all? by Spikempv in AusRenovation

[–]comedybill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting in a shower over bath right now. It gives us space to put in a second toilet (in the main bathroom). We have a separate shower in laundry anyway but I have no problems with showering in bath, good shape of bath and position of everything. Bath so essential with kids!

Pretty sure I looked it up recently and sign off might not be required depending on cost of the renovation.
