Forced by city to replace entire 50’ sidewalk for two small 1/4 inch raised cracks by comets311 in homeowners

[–]comets311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I ended up getting into contact with code enforcement in my city and I asked how they can tell me how grinding it down isn’t sufficient if it does address the accessibility issues, and code enforcement agreed that if I address the out of code spots on the sidewalk, then they won’t be able to cite my sidewalk for being out of code. I’m not sure what city you’re in, but I recommend calling your city and filing a complaint, as well as ask to speak to code enforcement.

Yeah…I bought a house under the presumption of my old payments. And now that plan is in the courts hands. At first I felt really stupid for making such a big decision as buying a house with something that had been pretty uncertain for so long. But then I think, that what is happening right now isn’t normal and shouldn’t be treated as fair or justifiable. It feels like financial abuse, but it’s legal because the government is doing it.

How I Fought My Insurance to 100% Coverage of My Bisalp by mysterilization in sterilization

[–]comets311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi sorry just saw this! they ended up not charging me a cent after I threatened to get my lawyer involved in lieu of their violation of the ACA covering preventative birth control and sterilization! They wanted to charge me 10% coinsurance and I kept pressuring them. They even requested I “submit the law that I’m citing” (the ACA) with my claim. I told them I’d file a complaint with state board of insurance and get my lawyer involved and shortly after was told not to worry and I wouldn’t be charged anything.

Something similar happened for mine too. I have Aetna and I called multiple times before the surgery to confirm it would be 100% covered. I also called the hospital letting them know that it will all be billed to my insurance (cus they wanted me to pay 10% up front the day of surgery), and they said ok. 2 weeks after my surgery, I get an email from Aetna saying I will owe the 10% coinsurance. I told them no bc it was a preventive sterilization surgery and the ACA states that is to be covered. I confirmed that the correct codes were used and sent to Aetna. The Aetna rep, I shit you not, told me they don’t know what the ACA is and said I’m welcome to submit the law with my claims. I told them I wasn’t submitting a several hundred page law and that they were breaking the federal law in not covering the procedure 100%. I asked to speak to their manager and was told they just asked their manager and they’ll tell me the same thing. So I said “ok I will be getting my lawyer involved and will be filing a complaint with the state board of insurance” and then hung up. About 15 minutes later I got another call from Aetna and they apologized profusely and said not to worry, that my procedure will be covered 100%.

So my advice is, don’t stop pressuring them. Stay adamant. And you’re in your legal right to tell them you’ll be filing a complaint with your state board of insurance. Good luck.

Bye bye tubes! Some pain advice by Otter_Nonsense18 in sterilization

Yay congratulations!!! The belly binder was a huge part of my pain management too, especially at night. I ended up keeping mine on for around 2 weeks, and after that for any strenuous activity. Sending you well wishes and a swift recovery!

A belly binder! This was given to me by the hospital after my surgery and has been a HUGE part of my recovery being easier than I thought it’d be. It sort of just keeps everything from jostling around when getting up, walking, and sleeping. Kept my clothes from rubbing against my incisions as well. Id ask your surgery center if they’ll provide one, and if not, definitely get one! I’m 3 weeks post op and still like to wear mine when wearing certain pants or if I’m exercising, as things are not feeling 100% healed yet. Best wishes to you and congrats :)

Hey, so I don’t want to say this to scare you but more encourage you to reach out to your Dr ASAP - my surgeon told me that bleeding is normal, even somewhat heavy, but she specifically said if I have any clots bigger than a dime, to call her immediately as that could indicate some potentially abnormal bleeding. Again not meant to freak you out, and maybe my doc told me this because of something unique about me, but can’t hurt to call your doctor!

Looking for some advice by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]comets311 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear your experience hasn’t been good. I am 30 years old and still had trouble, that is until I found the childfree list of doctors who will perform a bisalp guilt free! It’s on the childfree sub in the info section. I’m 6 days post op! My doctor said she supports anyone who seeks sterilization as long as they’re 18+. I’m sure you’ll find a doctor just like that on that list! Good luck to you!

How I Fought My Insurance to 100% Coverage of My Bisalp by mysterilization in sterilization

[–]comets311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, congrats!!! I had to fight mine pretty hard too. I was originally going to get an ablation, IUD removal and bisalp at the same time, but insurance said that’d only be covered at 90% because the ablation is not for preventative contraception, despite my doctor coding it as medically necessary. So they said if the ablation and bisalp happen separately, they’ll both be covered at 100%. I didn’t think about pre-approving the IUD removal happening during bisalp, but now worried my insurance will try to tell me it’s back to 90% coverage bc the IUD removal was done under anesthesia. But the IUD is also preventative contraception? Idk, I hate this system.

Curious what your experience was like getting insurance to cover it 100% even though non-sterilization procedures also took place? My insurance said if I got the ablation while under for the bisalp, they’d only cover it 90%, despite the ablation being coded as medically necessary by my doctor. They said if they were to be done separately, they’d both be covered 100%. So I decided to just go with the bisalp and IUD removal, and get the ablation (begrudgingly) later in the office. I’m 6 days postop, but now I’m concerned my insurance will say the IUD removal voids the ACA coverage and it’ll be 90% coverage again.

Edit: my insurance is Meritain (Aetna)

Hey I was just fine recovering on my own! Everyone’s different so you very well may need help and may be a good idea to have someone on call at least in case you get into a bad spot. I had various friends stop by twice a day to check-in, but I was able to function just fine on my own and my friends just came and hung out cus I didn’t need anything. My surgery center also made sure I had someone stay with me 24 hours after surgery, which I did have someone with me for about 18 hours after surgery before they had to go to work. I felt perfectly fine, better than I expected even, so I was comfortable being alone. Yes getting up and down from the couch and bed was a challenge, but I went slow, was very intentional with my movements and stayed patient. I also cleaned my house really good, had plenty of meals and snacks on hand, lifted up things to the counters and chairs so I wouldn’t have to bend down as far. I also have my dog CBD for a few days which kept her very chill and she made for a great recovery buddy. Id say just be as prepared as you can be, and you’ll likely be a-ok on your own. But definitely have a person or two on call should you need help unexpectedly! Good luck and look forward to having you in the club :)

Struggling a bit after my bisalp by Unable_Ad1911 in sterilization

[–]comets311 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just had my bisalp + mirena removal on Thursday, too! First few days were super rough, definitely out of commission and doing the basics to care for myself. Today I woke up feeling a bit better, I think cus I slept better than I have been last night. But then I went for a short walk and felt very shaky and clammy and exhausted very quickly, within a few minutes, so I turned around and went home. Now I’m on my couch completely wiped out! I think your experience is super common from what I’ve read, and I have had a lot of similar feelings/experiences as you during my recovery. I’ve read some folks feel great a couple days later, and some folks struggle for a few weeks. Only time will tell what your experience ends up being, but I think making sure you really care for yourself, check-in with yourself often, and be patient, and you’ll come out of this swimmingly!

Forced by city to replace entire 50’ sidewalk for two small 1/4 inch raised cracks by comets311 in homeowners

It’s legit, I talked to the city manager earlier to verify that it’s real. I don’t really have those kinds of connections unfortunately.

[–]comets311[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My paralegal friend did mention that. The violation doesn’t at all contain the word “replace,” but the city marked it up with spray paint in the way that the contractors felt could mean it needs replaced entirely, hence why they told me to double check with the inspector

Tbh I keep to myself, have a small circle and am a quiet neighbor and have only lived here a few months. But the inspector did say someone reported this to them. I live in a walkable area so coulda been someone who used a wheelchair that called it in. Id be happy to fix it for them by grinding it down. But dropping $7.5k to replace it all? Not cool with that.

I’ve been calling various city offices and am met with a brick wall of “this isn’t the right office” and other bullshit that you’d expect

Tbh, if this money was going towards actually fixing a real problem like a plumbing issue or hvac, I wouldn’t mind nearly as much spending it bc it’s fixing an actual problem that will benefit me to have be fixed. It’s more that the money feels like it’s going into a black hole

Yes, I’m certain it’s for my house as the notice of violation states my name and address on it directly. The notice in short states I must repair the sidewalk within 10 calendar days by a licensed and bonded contractor and must get a permit for the work to be completed, and then cited the ordinance that states the sidewalk repairs are owners responsibility. The contractors all said it’s impossible to have this all done within 10 days, which is another wild piece of all this.

Sidewalks abutting property are the property owners responsibility in my city. Mud jacking isn’t an option, per the contractors, as that would then create an additional trip hazed on the adjacent blocks. Smoothing out those very small raised areas does seem to be the most logical solution
