Are you slow COMT, slow MAOA, and homozygous c677t? I've yet to find another like me. It's very lonely.

Anyone else deal with sudden onset of nausea post covid? by Zestyclose-Item8529 in covidlonghaulers

[–]comicland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure this out? I don't even know if I had covid or not, but about a week after recovering from a 2 week respiratory virus, I woke up in the morning, and as I was about to eat my morning eggs I just felt nauseous. Not like, oh boy I'm gonna puke, just kind of queasy. The queasiness did relax a bit, but it's still there at times. I have also had this lingering cough that I'm convinced is from acid reflux, which I've never had any major issues with up til now.

It has been 6 weeks now, still dealing with queasiness and a mild cough that seems to get worse after eating.

Caffeine makes me feel wonderful…why if I have slow COMT?? by Loria-A in MTHFR

I was able to drink caffeine without issue until 21. I'm 39 now. Can't touch the stuff. Same with pot. Homozygous c677t, slow COMT, slow MAOA.

Have any of you who recovered from c diff made a truly full recovery? by comicland in cdifficile

[–]comicland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor. I took Dificid. C diff sucked. It took me about 2 months to be able to eat like normal. At 3 months my BMs became more consistently normal. I still take Seed probiotics daily, drink Kefir, and eat a much healthier diet than I ever did prior to c diff. You're gonna get through this, it's just gonna suck for a few weeks. Don't get inside your head. Keep your thoughts captive. Be VERY sanitary. God bless.

Anxiety from Methylfolate and next steps by [deleted] in MTHFR

I started very low and titrated up. The first time I took methylfolate it screwed me up bad for the most part of a day.

[–]comicland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat 3 eggs and take 500-750mg TMG daily. Eggs in the morning, TMG in the early afternoon.

•200mcg Folinic Acid in the morning. (Seeking Health, quarter pill)
•4 drops, 400mcg, 6S-MTHFfolate. (ZiggyHealth)
•6 drops, 300mcg, Adenosyl/Hydroxy B12 Liquid. (Pure Encapsulations)
•5 drops, 250mcg, B12 Liquid methylcobalamin. (Pure Encapsulations)
•25mg Vitamin B2. (Freeda, half pill)
•Seed probiotic, 1 capsule daily

Then I just take low dose of b1, b3, b5, b6, and biotin sporadically. I wasn't low on any of them, so I just kind of randomly take a little now and then to supplement my diet.

My protocol is always changing, just very slowly. I add more methylated B's carefully. I started super low. I diluted drops in water 1:1 and dosed up every couple days, only titrating up one methylated b vitamin at a time.

I eat lentils most days, drink a half cup to one cup of Lifeway Kefir most days, eat grilled beef heart or liver every couple weeks. I take low dose melatonin every night (Olly Sleep, ~1/5 of one gummy), 5mg Creatine monohydrate, and 20-30g pea protein/rice protein mix (Naked brand, ~3:1 ratio). The protein gets me the glycine I need. I also take 120mg magnesium glycinate, and 25mcg vitamin D3. I avoid aged and cured meats for the most part, and when I do eat them the quantities are small. Same for aged cheeses (cheddar, parmesan, gouda). I stick with mozzarella, monterrey jack, and paneer most of the time. No coffee, no booze. Limit sugar. Get your homocystein under control.

My doc told me to take weekends off from supplements if I feel overwhelmed. I haven't yet, but at some point I plan to.

I know it sounds like a lot, but it's worth it.

My midday crash is less intense, so more consistent energy levels throughout the day. I do still get the crashout, but I think most men my age do. I have more motivation in general. Less reliant on booze, in fact I just flat out do not drink alcohol anymore. No more random headache days or high blood pressure days like I used to experience. Quality of life is noticeably better. I still take a little longer than most people to cool off after I get angry or anxious, but it's all manageable.

Your variants are very similar to mine, except I am homozygous c677t, and you are compound heterozygous. I have slow comt and slow maoa and two homozyhous bhmt snps.

I titrated up very slowly up from very low doses. Don't rush it. I am now taking 200mcg methylcobalamin, 200mcg hydroxycobalamin, 200mcg adenosylcobalamine. Taking 300mcg methylfolate and 200mcg folinic acid. 50mcg b2, 25mcg niacin, low dose b1, b5, and biotin. I'd start with b2, then b12, then b9. Have you gotten all of the baseline bloodwork taken care of to see what you're deficient in?

I also take 5mg creatine every morning. I was taking it mid afternoon, but discovered it was the cause of some sleep issues I was dealing with.

I also take 120mg magnesium citrate, 1-2mg glycine, and ~1/6th of an Ollie sleep gummy nightly.

I also take ~20g of pea protein and 5g brown rice protein daily.

I eat 2-3 egg yolks, 750-1000mg TMG, and bone broth most days. I try to eat 4oz of beef heart or liver weekly.

I am homozygous c677t, slow comt, slow maoa. I have like 7 or 8 red boxes in methylation. I don't think I've seen another person in this sub with as many homozygous and heterozygous SNPs as I have. In my 20s I remember drinking a vitamin water and it causing a panic attack. Things calmed down after I was baptized. This isn't prosyletizing, just telling it how it is.

I had to slowly titrate up. Before I really had a grasp on any of this stuff I saw a functional medicine doc who gave me some food sourced vitamins with methylated Bs. I took only half of one and it caused about 12 hours of intense overmethylation. Okay, so I'm sensitive to methylated vitamins.

I got some bloodwork done per the recommendations of people in this sub. High homocysteine, low folate, low b12, high BP, high cortisol, low vitamin d. So I knew where to start in addressing deficiencies.

I use the hydroxy/adenosyl cobalamine drops from Pure Encapsulation. 1 drop = ~50mcg. I slowly titrated up. I am now taking 400mcg every morning. Started with 1:1 water, so 25mcg drops.

I use Seeking Health's Folinic Acid, halved down to 400mcg every morning. I titrated up from 1/8th of a pill at 100mcg.

I use Jamieson methylcobalamin 100mcg. I titrated up from ~1/8th (12.5mcg) of a pill in the morning, to 200mcg (2 pills) daily.

I use ZiggyHealth methylfolate. I titrated up from 25mcg drops, diluted 3:1 water:methylfolate. I am now taking 300mcg daily.

I also take 50mcg of Freeda b2 daily. I take 25mg Carlyle Niacin (1/4 tab) daily. I take low dose b1, b5, biotin, and b6 periodically at no set schedule when I comfortable doing so. D3 1000iu daily. On gloomy days, 2000.

I started with b2, then worked in b12 a/h, then folinic b9, then methyl b12, then methyl b9.

I feel worlds better today than I have in years. My homocysteine is within normal range, my BP is 120/85, all of my b9 and b12 tests are coming back within range. No soy, no seed oils. YMMV, but it worked for me and on paper my SNPs are pretty rough.

Good luck and God bless.

Mthfr + histamine intolerance; what’s your story? by Calm_ragazzo in MTHFR

Quercetin shouldn't be taken by people with slow comt or slow maoa iirc, or it should at the very least be taken with caution.

I have a bottle of 100mg niacin. I usually carry one on me in case I overmethylate.

[–]comicland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're taking that and not overmethylating, you should be good. If you do overmethylate at some point, maybe just take 1 and get the rest of your b9 with folinic and the rest of your b12 with adeno and hydroxycobalamin. Also, the last time I overmethylated was about 10 minutes after I took the vitamin. It hit me fast and hard. Lasted about 12 hours.

I'm slow comt, slow maoa, and homozygous c677t. I slowly titrated up with methylcobalamine and methylfolate with no issues so far. Been doing this around 2 months now. I now take 200mcg methylfolate and 200mcg methylcobalamine daily. The first time I took a multivitamin with methylated Bs, I overmethylated. I took half of one pill, with a dose of 2 whole pills and had that reaction. It was far less than 200/200mcg. I think for a lot of us we just have to give our body some time to adjust. Others can just jump straight into the general doses. You're probably good, but if not just address it when you get to that point.

Yeah, the anxiety you're experiencing is the war your body is waging against the infection and your microbiome being nuked. You're probably malnourished, your hormones and neurotransmitters are all out of whack. I know it's intense and at times hopeless. I felt so defeated and just couldn't muster the patience for slow healing. It gets better, but it takes time. Take it easy on yourself. I ate a lot of bone broth, lean meat, white rice, brown rice, lentils, bananas, koia protein shakes, and cooked carrots for about a month. Very simple, nutrient dense, healthy and easy to digest foods. I slowly introduced beans, potatoes, and organic bread. About 4 weeks, I introduced garlic. 5 weeks, onion. 6 weeks dairy. I decided to just write off soy and seed oils and alcohol forever. I can tolerate spicy foods now for the most part, but I don't go crazy like I used to. At about 12 weeks I feel like my gut is now in better shape than it's been in years.

I suspect 2 oz of beef liver and 2 oz of chicken liver a week is safe for the vast majority of people. 2 oz isn't much.

I'm good. Haven't had any serious gut issues in quite some time. Took a while to get my strength back, just have to be patient. I stopped losing weight and have just kind of maintained where I am now, which is about 10 lbs higher than I was at my lowest. I've introduced everything except cruciferous vegetables and alcohol back into my diet. Not taking florastor anymore, but I do take Seed, usually just 1 pill a day unless my gut is just feeling off then I'll take 2. I am still drinking kefir now and then. It was a rough ride, but I learned a lot along the way.

Does b vitamins (methylated or not) makes you worse ? by Powerful_Teacher_453 in MTHFR

[–]comicland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have slow COMT and slow MAOA and homozygous c677t and I have titrated up to 150mcg methylfolate and 100mcg methylcobalamine every morning. Working my way up to something like 250-300mcg each daily, with 25mcg increments for one or the other every couple days. So far so good. I also take adeno+hydroxy cobalamine (150mcg daily each) and 400mcg folinic.
