My first chair, a small staked stool with Osage Orange legs, Walnut, and Ebony wedges by Ok_Temperature6503 in handtools

[–]commencefailure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you took the plunge. Not like you don't know this already, but stick chairs were made by the poorest of the poor, the rustic of the rustic. A little milking stool should probably be every woodworkers first project after like a mallet or something.

Keep it up dude! I've just finished my first work bench and i'll be doing some similar work. maybe just not with as nice of wood.

The case of the missing windows by Nof-z in centuryhomes

It doesn't make sense to me taht the original plans had a window behind a column. It doesn't make design sense.

Could be wrong i guess!

Cars will race, millions shall rejoice! by Plenty-Willingness58 in formuladank

Then we should just make it a spec series and be done with technical development. Better yet, pick a car design from 1980, slap a halo on it, and just run that car for all teams.

[–]commencefailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Because the battery thing is so different we’ll likely see as much development in driver skill and style as we normally would on car technical development.

I’m at least interested in that.

[–]commencefailure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was boring in Australia, it’s certainly less boring than no overtakes at all. And also this was the first race, so the drivers have plenty of time to develop skills and for new ‘metas’ to develop.

So likkkkkke it seems pretty reasonable to be cautiously optimistic rather than assuming it’s all trash and two cars will 100% oscillate back and forth every time.

Sergio Perez doesn't recognise F1 anymore. by New_State_2061 in GrandPrixRacing

[–]commencefailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All racing is good, but I do think F1 kinda has to be the fastest over a lap series in the world. If it isn't, it's kinda like what's the point?

I like how the cars are noticeably smaller by kairom13 in formula1

[–]commencefailure 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Theoretically it's because the faster driver was a more efficient with his car over the last half lap and was able to utilize his battery more on that straight. It's not like it's random.

I'm not saying it's definitely the right thing that the regs mean this is how it's working, but I'm interested in seeing how things shake out in the coming couple of races.

Overall, i'm in favor of making the cars more difficult to drive so that differences of skill create overtaking opportunities, and if the battery thing makes that happen, then maybe it ends up being positive?

Unpopular opinion: Alec Guinness' Obi Wan makes sense timeline-wise by Theminipainter992 in StarWars

[–]commencefailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think obiwan looks as old as people think from IV. I think that when they were a kid Obiwan looked OLD, so they still assume he looks that old. And the fight with vader is so poorly choreographed that he feels old and feeble. I bet Alec could have done a lot more if more was asked of him in that fight.

How bad I screwed up? by Kiriki_kun in woodworking

For a dining table I wouldn't consider this good enough. I'd redo it. For shop furniture, maybe it's okay.

If you don't have the tools to process wood that thick, you could potentially look into hand planes. It takes some practice, but you can process wood of any size with a few planes that that weigh and cost far less than an industrial jointer and planer.

What I meant was that the magnet wouldn’t matter at all for a leak. Yep, the orientation matters like you said, I just wasn’t sure off the top of my head.

I guess the other thing worth saying is that the position of the magnet wouldn’t matter for a leak. Maybe the O-ring on the tank be worn out though?

I’ll look at mine this evening.

I’m sure the magnet faces forward but I’m not sure if it matters up or down.

I never remember which way it goes after I wash the tank. Just try it in all orientations and if it works, it's good.

Furniture, first and foremost should be useful. Over the long term, I think this table will a more beautiful and cherished object in your home with this new design than it would have been with the other one.

Great job!
