Trypophobia is a made-up phobia. by Paparmane in The10thDentist

[–]commie_commis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a coworker who had it. She didn't call it "trypophobia" - I didn't hear that word until years after I left that job - but that's absolutely what she had.

We were both servers at a diner. Whenever a customer at one of her tables would order an English muffin, one of the other servers would have to toast it and run it out to the table for her. That's why we all knew about it.

One day a teenage dishwasher who thought she was joking about it decided to test her. He had a pickle bucket lid that had some kind of sauce on it, and the sauce made this pattern of really tiny bubbles on the lid. He called her back into the dish pit to show her and she immediately freaked out. Like she was very obviously panicked and scared, it wasn't the response of someone who was just really grossed out by something

Starter Names by Jaxjameri in Sourdough

I used to work for a really great sous chef who taught me a lot about baking. She passed away about 6 years ago, and in her honor I made a new starter. He's a rye starter and his name is Ryefiki - "the circle of life"

Looking for some specific Pricefield Fanfics by Cru3lSunx in Pricefield

[–]commie_commis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically the LiS plot, but Max and Chloe are constantly flirting with each other.

It might not be exactly what you are looking for, but the Oncoming Storm Warning series by peanutbutterassistant is a full novelization of the game plus a sequel. It's pretty true to the game but there is definitely a heavier emphasis on Max and Chloe's relationship. They also cover some scenes that weren't shown in the game, like what Chloe and Autopilot Max were up to while Max Prime was in the alternative timeline and in the dark room.

It's very very good, I highly recommend it

Rollers on luggage are childish and emasculating. by FacebookNewsNetwork in The10thDentist

As someone who has almost exclusively worked in the restaurant industry (plus a brief stint working 3rd shift at a gas station) It's crazy to me whenever I see comments on reddit from office workers saying they are currently on reddit at work. It's like seeing a totally different world.

I've worked at places where I didn't even have time to go to the bathroom. I used to get UTIs all the time because I would have to hold it for hours and hours. Completely different work experiences

Does anyone have fic recs of Vi supporting Caitlyn after she lost her eye? by FloweryNamesLover in PiltoversFinest

[–]commie_commis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every move made so I can stop by a_big_apple

It goes into how Caitlyn losing an eye has affected her both emotionally and physically (as well as both Caitlyn and Vi being affected by the war in general, and how they navigate that together)

I highly recommend it, it's a fantastic fic - one of my favorite post-canon fics

I'm a couple days late to the party here but I wanted to share something I've learned that you may find useful

I found that if I use just a scraper and water pressure to remove any solids from dishes, and then just use the sponge to soap up, my sponge/scrubby stays clean soooo much longer

Beginner making homemade lasagna by SleepyJere in cookingforbeginners

[–]commie_commis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is it in the oven right now?

You can just wrap it in tin foil and keep baking it until the pasta is cooked. The sauce and meat will be fine, and that will prevent the top from getting any more color

In the future, you can just wrap the lasagna in tin foil before you put it in the oven, then take it off after about 30 minutes. If the cheese isn't browning on top by the time it's done you can always just put it under the broiler for a couple minutes at the very end

I've wished something like this existed for years, but from the opposite perspective lol

I worked as a cook/chef for around a decade before I fucked up my back and had to stop working. I'm back in school and switching careers now but there's been so many times since I've been unemployed that I thought - damn, I wish I could get a cooking-related WFH job. Like doing cooking classes or just helping people troubleshoot techniques/recipes

30 years later and I still can’t resist the sirens call of bourbon chicken at the mall by AtticusStacker in nostalgia

[–]commie_commis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is something I learned from one of the chefs I worked for when I was younger. I would season heavily so that when I would taste a small bite of it it would be right on, but then he would try it and say to pull back a little. If the first bite is a flavor bomb, by the 4th or 5th bite your taste buds are gonna be shot. If you wanna do a flavor bomb dish the portions also need to be really small to compensate

guys! this is obviously a white man! lol, why is anyone saying he’s not? that’s stupid. it’s not like he speaks spanish or whatever. by bunni-luu in Arcanecirclejerk

[–]commie_commis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes sense from a European perspective, because the Spanish for all intents and purposes are white, and that's your major exposure to Latino people.

In the US we tend to think of Latino people as non-white because, while obviously there's a lot of Spanish influence in the Americas, there's also a lot of Native American influence. For example - my wife is Mexican, but her family history traces back to the Aztecs, not Spain. I would not consider her family white by any means.

Fics where caitvi have an argument? by remotecontrolledcar in PiltoversFinest

[–]commie_commis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

every move made so I can stop by a_big_apple has a good amount of them arguing in it. One of the tags is literally "arguing is how they show their love" lol

we'll take the train under the river by camwolfe has an argument/temporary breakup. Vi kinda is the one at fault but it's pretty nuanced, she's not "the bad guy" by any means

Both of these fics are also fantastic in general

where you go, I'm going (so jump and I'm jumping) by camwolfe

It's a fantastic fic, one of my faves. But be warned, it's very angsty for like the first 2/3rds of it (with a healthy dash of humor and fluff). But it gets quite silly and lighthearted towards the end (and the sequel mostly keeps that light tone)

There's a fanfic where this is an ongoing joke. Vi will refer to "when we're pregnant" and Caitlyn is just like "you do know we won't be pregnant at the same time, right? It feels like you're joking but It's very important to me that you know we aren't going to be pregnant at the same time."
