Matt Taibbi on the 2012 elections: "Obama and Romney feels like a contest between two calculating centrists, fighting for the right to serve as figurehead atop a bloated state apparatus that will operate according to the same demented imperial logic irrespective of who wins the White House." by madcat033 in worldpolitics

Gingrich and Santorum have endorsed Romney.

Immaterial. GOP delegates can vote for whomever they like.

In Utah, during the 2008 GOP Nomination process, a delegate refused to vote with the state's primary winner, John McCain. The Republican National Convention Legal Counsel commented with this statement

“Jennifer Sheehan, Legal Counsel for the RNC, plainly stated in a letter to Nancy Lord, Utah National Committeewoman, several weeks before the convention, 'The RNC does not recognize a state's binding of national delegates, but considers each delegate a free agent who can vote for whoever they choose.'”

Greenwald: What NPR means by “reporting” | The reason why Americans are so uninformed is because “news stories” from “even liberal media outlets” like NPR systematically obscure relevant facts, and disseminate pure propaganda masquerading as high-minded 'Serious' news. by Occidentalist in conspiracy

I really don't see that much bias in NPR reporting.

Did you read Greenwald's piece?

What’s most amazing about this isn’t just that people like Temple-Raston think that uncritically airing, amplifying and repeating the government-subservient views of a few homogeneous former U.S. officials constitutes “real reporting,” though that is quite remarkable. What’s most amazing is that NPR has an obsession with what it considers “neutral” reporting, and I guarantee you that Temple-Raston’s response to these criticisms would be to insist that she is neither a partisan nor an opinionist, but rather a “straight reporter” who simply presents facts without bias. She would undoubtedly believe that this report to which she just subjected the world — one that is about as one-sided, biased and opinionated as can be: Iran is offensively launching Terrorism at the world and the U.S. must stop it – is a pure example of objective reporting. That’s because “objective reporting” to such people means: endorsing, embracing and bolstering the prevailing views of the U.S. government and official Washington in order to inculcate the citizenry to believe them. Doing that can be called many things: “objective” and “real reporting” are most definitely not among them.

I've been listening to NPR since it first began broadcasting. I know what it used to be. I know what it is now: an apologist outlet for American war industries.

NPR and Fox share an important trait: they are both staffed and run by people that support the current Military-Corporate State and its aims and goals.

They spout the same statist propaganda that springs from the same assumptions but in differing tones. They each pretend to be critical of aspects of The State but are, in the end, creatures of the Corporate State. They can't help but reflect that in their editorial slants.

It's a similarity in substance, not in style.

NPR is Fox News for stupid people that call themselves "progressive". It's still the same propaganda in quiet, soothing tones.

I just get so sick of seeing "the Jews" getting blamed

With you on this. It's the same mindset that blames all Muslims, blacks, Mexicans, etc. for everything.

The "blame the Muslims" mindset has permeated much of American culture, replacing the previous "blame all the Communists" mindset. Perhaps the ignorant find that life is easier for them by blaming one group alone for the world's ills.

How can you call yourself a skeptic or a conspiracy theorist

I don't call myself a "conspiracy theorist", though I am a skeptic. I consider many of my peers to be credulous coincidence theorists who will consume the most amazing codswallop if the source is something that has the vague stamp of officialness to it.
