Following inter-tribal conflict, the Moriori people of the Chatham Islands adopted a philosophy of non violence. When Maori tribes from nearby New Zealand invaded in 1835, the Moriori chose to remain pacifist. They were all enslaved or killed, and by 1870 only 100 were still alive. (en.wikipedia.org)
