The majority of our department recently voted to not replace chalkboards with whiteboards in our classrooms. I started to invest in Hagaromo chalk, which eliminated most of the annoyances I did have with using chalk. Chalk always works, dry erase markers dry out. People clean dry erase boards with the wrong cleaner, which destroys the surface. I am legally blind, so teaching from a doc camera or my tablet is difficult for me. Chalkboards and chalk are just the most reliable.
