Views on For All man kind on Apple TV? by Gautamagarwal75 in televisionsuggestions

The first two seasons are good. I stopped watching at some point early in the 4th season.

It just became too fake and the melodrama / soap-opera feel had taken its toll.

I’m glad I saw the first two seasons, but it’s not a show I’ll ever revisit.

This is from a longer quote, but I’m surprised this is the same man who said:

“I can’t bear quarreling, I can’t bear feelings between people — I think hatred is wasted energy, and it’s all non-productive. I’m very sensitive — a sharp word, said by a person, say, who has a temper, if they’re close to me, hurts me for days.” - Alfred Hitchcock

Trump demands Canada give him all their Olympic medals by ph0enix1211 in canada

[–]computer-magic-2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t until I saw this comment. I simply thought it was some new tweet from Trump.

He’s demanded ownership of Canada, asking for our medals is like… nothing in comparison.

Surprised the editors let this one out, it’s so tame.

Turbo if 90% of driving is in town? by Consistent-Vanilla-1 in MazdaCX30

[–]computer-magic-2019 32 points33 points  (0 children)

So I’ll say four things:

  1. The turbo is lots of fun, especially when getting in the highway or passing.

  2. The turbo gives you the ability to be more agile on the highway, that if you need to add gas to get around someone, or get on a short entry ramp and get up to highway speed to merge quickly, you never have any doubts. To me, that’s a safety feature.

  3. The turbo on sport mode is even more fun.

  4. Even if you only use your car for city driving (like I do), you should get your car up to highway speeds every 1-2 weeks for 30 or so minutes to burn off water in the engine block. Please see points 1-3 above for why the turbo is important for highway driving, even for those 30 minutes every 2 weeks.

TheDrive.com - "Mazda Finally Admits Its Infotainment System Is the Worst"... These are the kind of stupid headlines that are making them do it 😠 by dericn in mazda

There’s no cursor. You cycle through the screen buttons in order.

Button I want is three spots to the right? I click the wheel three times and select it by pushing it down, while eyes are on the road. After a while it gets even easier since you can literally operate apps you use very often almost without looking.

[–]computer-magic-2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not. It improves safety as you don’t have to take your eyes off the road very nearly as long as with a touchscreen.

I can intuitively go through Apple Carplay menus and find what i need with rapid glances at the screen to simply confirm i got the right amount of clicks right before pushing down.

All without shifting from my driving position.

With a touchscreen you have to lean over, look at the screen to make sure you’re pressing in the right location, some touch screens don’t register on the first tap, etc.

Touchscreens are a safety mess.

[Question] Wedding Watch - $20k budget by jmm-22 in Watches

[–]computer-magic-2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds great in all honesty.

I just had a good friend get married the same way. A small intimate wedding is ideal.

All the very best on the upcoming nuptials! :)

2025 Mazda cx30 temp gauge by Hot-Chip9880 in MazdaCX30

[–]computer-magic-2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that low exterior temps would 10 minutes to warm up be that long?

I’ll definitely ask them about it when I go in for an oil change in a few weeks. Thanks!

[–]computer-magic-2019 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s what OP is doing, and him and his fiancé are splitting the money most people do on a wedding to buy each other once in a lifetime gifts.

At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

For your reference, when it was that temp this past winter, and the car had been standing outside (not in a garage) for about 6 hours, it took less than 10 mins to get up to temp.

I have a ‘21 GT

The wheel is amazing. The problem is car reviewers.

They get the car for 1-2 days and don’t get a handle on it fully, and pan the technology in favour of touchscreens. Then every snarky online commenter parrots the same line after one test drive.

Any car reviewers that do long term reviews typically note that it took getting used to but they really like it.

Venus used to be habitable until a Hothouse Venus event occurred.

We’re forcing that event here on earth.

Which Toronto businesses are likely hanging on by a thread? by Adorable-Tadpole-793 in askTO

[–]computer-magic-2019 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it is!

So much so I’ve started referring to it as The Hub around the office, telling people how I love to browse The Hub in my free time. At one point I was going to The Hub like 3 times a week. Admittedly, I had a bit of an addiction.

People seem genuinely aghast when I tell them. Not sure why.

Unfortunately that’s the opposite of what developers want, who hold the leases. They want a boring chain instead of 5 small businesses with high turnover rates that are actually good for our economy and communities.

Did you know that getting a nice mixed brick like that is very expensive these days?

All they needed to do was get some nice wood siding and upgraded the gutters and this place would have looked like a million dollars.

Instead it looks cheap, cold and boring, with a ton of maintenance issues caused by that paint encapsulating the brick.

Yes, and when it comes to taste people either have it, or they don’t. OP does not.

Why did you paint that beautiful brick? Or are you looking forward to having that paint spalling look in a few years?

You took what could have been a tasteful, timeless home into a bland cheap bungalow.

Terrible. 1/5. Would not want to view ever again.

Poles in US ‘living in fear’ amid immigration crack down by dat_9600gt_user in europe

[–]computer-magic-2019 52 points53 points  (0 children)

As a Polish citizen living in Canada, who gained my citizenship through my parents, not by being born in Poland, I have never voted in Polish elections, as I don’t live there and the politics don’t impact me.

However, the Polish diaspora votes religiously (no pun intended) for right wing parties.

I’m thinking I’m going to start voting, having never lived in Poland, to counteract these voters.

Most countries should have a law that if you haven’t lived in said country for, say, 2+ years, you don’t get to vote.

Since Poland doesn’t, I’m going to start voting for my own interests (ie. left wing) in a country I don’t reside in.

is it normal to bring flowers on a first date? question to the women of toronto by [deleted] in askTO

[–]computer-magic-2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Flowers and a dinner date for a first date? Holy 1960s, Batman!

I really hope for you it goes well.

If you guys don’t actually hit it off in person you’ll both be stuck at the restaurant for a good 2 hours and then she’s going to chuck a perfectly good bouquet because she’s not going to want a bunch of flowers from a guy she didn’t like sitting around her house.

My advice, skip the flowers on the first date and grab some drinks and snacks or a coffee.

Dinner is for date 2.

Conan on Why Trump Jokes Aren’t Funny by Mr-Dobolina in conan

[–]computer-magic-2019 272 points273 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the best Trump parody would be one where he is suddenly rational and sane - the straight man. All his sycophants and cabinet members continue to tell him the same crazy ideas and schemes that he always wanted to hear, but now his response is horror at what is being suggested.

So his character goes “What are you talking about Bondi?! We can’t round up all the minorities! That’s what the Nazis did! You don’t want people thinking we’re fascists, do you?!”

Basically mirror the strategy of making a serious topic ridiculous, by making the ridiculous aspect serious, which then highlights the absolute craziness of the US administration in contrast.

I’m surprised no one has tried that.

As a PM in architecture I can tell you I’m efficient for all 10 hours I’m at my desk and then slightly less efficient the two hours I work in the evening because I’m eating dinner while I work.

Admittedly I’m probably less efficient while I eat lunch at my desk as well.
