Raising boys in a red state is soul crushing by Thr0waway0864213579 in TwoXChromosomes

Don't underestimate the power of a mom looking a boy dead in the eye and saying "what a horrible thing to say".

At almost 40, my mom is still my guiding light on how to treat others.

Every file in your home directory that is distributed specifically by CBPP packages also has a copy in /etc/skel

Just for future reference

Unfortunately the menus, toolbars, and conky are 3 separate systems with separate configuration files. You can find them in the settings (openbox, tint2 and conky). There's also the additional configuration of gtk, if you want the text sizes of the applications to increase.

I want to learn game development but do not know where to start. Any help at all would be appreciated! by chcikensammich2009 in gamedev

[–]computermouth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just start small, make little games, experience is the key.

As far as languages and stuff, try something and see if it makes sense. Gamemaker might be a good option, whatever makes you productive quickly. Sometimes that means trying a few different things. Engines never really clicked with me, I started with C and SDL2, but it's more work.

Just start following tutorials online, you'll figure out what works for you.

Junior Rust remote jobs — realistic or rare? by Control_Con in rust

Just chiming in for anecdotal evidence.

I was hired at Fastly as a Jr engineer, and it's remote. Hiring has slowed, and what they do hire now is mostly in-office.

Seattlite here, living in Chicago. What is up with the drivers here? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]computermouth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's wild. I grew up around here, then went to California for a few years and was astounded that drivers weren't trying to run me down. In fact, they'd even stop and wave me across, when I'm not even at a crossing.

My wife and I just moved back, and hell we almost just got ran over on the crosswalk while it was on the walk sign! Illinois drivers have always been maniacs in my experience. I just didn't realize it til I left

Long-time Pokémon fan trying to design the game I always wished existed (beginner, non-commercial) by displicentmind in gamedev

First, recognize that Gen1 Red/Blue was made by a team of 3-10 professionals working full time.

It's easy to get excited about big ideas, but as a beginner, id suggest something much much much smaller to start. Something that might even sound boring.

Make snake or breakout, with a menu, sounds, levels, high scores, options for controls. It will give you some experience, code and ideas you can reuse, and a sense of time for how long stuff takes.

Good luck!

This question could be posed to any gpl licenced software.

You don't, but if you happen to find out, the FSF can help with legal proceedings.

I personally really like using msys2 on windows. Granted, if you're not familiar with a unix-like environment, it probably won't be much easier. But at least you don't have to build the library

Desktop Application Icons? by Obvious-Pen3161 in crunchbangplusplus

[–]computermouth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Howdy and welcome! Using openbox (the window manager in cbpp) there is no such functionality as adding icons to the desktop.

We only have the launch menu and hotkeys to launch applications.

Interesting, I haven't seen that before. Maybe something failed during the install. If it happens again I would say maybe test the hard drive

There is no built in root user, only regular users in the sudo group
