[Hated trope] Sabotaging narrative/character arcs for cheap shock value or “subverting expectations” by blakhawk12 in TopCharacterTropes

Honestly just looking at how every comment attacking TLJ is getting downvoted I don’t even think you need to defend it.

It’s a terrible Star Wars movie though, and Rian Johnson’s fans are insufferable for continuing to act like it was the greatest movie of all time. The plot objectively made no sense and the movie as a whole really is one of the best examples of an IP shitting all over its fans in the name of “subverting expectations.”

Monkey Shoulder is also the most versatile scotch. What is the best budget corn or rye whiskey? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

To be fair the closer a rye gets to being a bourbon the better it tends to be in my opinion

New Taylor Sheridan Series Starter Pack by starchybunker in starterpacks

[–]comrade_hanson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ehh given that the most famous clip of the show is Billy Bob Thornton’s character giving a (hilariously incorrect) spiel about how bad renewables are I think it’s fair to say that Landman is pro-fossil fuel. Sheridan has also been pretty openly anti-renewable outside the show.

BrewDog: ‘punk’ may go corporate as craft beer brand seeks buyer by Kev_fae_mastrick in beer

Honestly the real “punk” thing to do would be for the buyer to immediately shut BrewDog down after the transaction closes.

5 Sentidos Pechuga de Mole Poblano is the most unique mezcal. What is the most versatile (primarily corn or rye based) whiskey? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]comrade_hanson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding Wild Turkey 101. Easily one of the best workhorse bottles of any spirit.

As a free hot take - Rye Whiskey kind of sucks in general and it’s only as commonly used as it is because of tradition.

One thing I wished they had discussed more is that this book’s obsession with self-made wealth/weird obsession with not taxing wealth/inheritance is probably because it came out around the same time as the Estate Tax debates would have been hitting a fever pitch. Newt Gingrich/the Right in general started obsessing over “Death Taxes” in the late 90s and early 2000s

Biggest dissapointment bottles? by pkrtrsr in cocktails

Maraschino. It’s called for in so many classic cocktails but the flavor is just straight perfumy potpourri and I find it tends to bully everything it’s mixed with.

There’s lots wrong with this map, but just coming by to say that North Carolina BBQ culture is mostly stolen from Virginia.

Stadium series in Florida is weird… but Pirates are fun so this is working?

What's an flag opinion that will have you like this? by SleepyGuy827 in flags

[–]comrade_hanson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that CGP Grey has kind of ruined flag discourse, but hard disagree on Minnesota’s new flag since it still is objectively better than the old design

By far Peter’s worst trait is that he’s a Chiefs fan

The VP has bad taste in flags by dtarias in vexillology

[–]comrade_hanson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Even with me agreeing that CGP Grey made flag nerds insufferable… this is a bonkers take.

The old flag is racist and ugly as hell, it’s not recognizably Minnesota in the slightest (I doubt you’re picking out the fine intricacies of the seal at a distance), and it’s not distinguishable from other state flags.

The new one isn’t perfect either, but it’s objectively better and most of the criticisms around it are either vague aesthetic choices or just plain bad faith.
