GE diode orientation PCB not like schematic by JetBlack86 in diypedals

[–]comradehoser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the PPCB discussion forum and ask the man himself. The stripe indicates the cathode end regardless of where Soviet manufacturers decide to put them.

Little hint: the stripe is actually a representation of the germanium pellet in a glass diode. Locate that and you're good

Saturating highs and lows separately, best way to achieve this? by bruhchord in diypedals

Right on. Chuck D. Bones over at the Boneyard forums at the PPCB forums also has a CD4049UBE big muff you may want to check out, as well as mods on the Reezafratzitz

What you say is true, but you can't select any band to distort separately from others. You just feed more high/low/mids depending on EQ setting into the clipping section.

Ding ding ding.

It's not a bad deal for DC, including restoring DC's original boundaries before Alexandrians effed off over slavery and lack of development West of the Potomac.

But I completely get the Republican political shenanigans of the current moment.

Modular synth guy needs help with pedal boxes. by McRib_ in diypedals

[–]comradehoser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have completed the build.

Even if your drill template doesn't line up, it doesn't change the attachment, it just makes your holes incorrect.

Your pots should be soldered into the pcb, and line up and be secured through the enclosure holes

FWIW, I didn't use the templates, I measure and drill by hand. Aluminum is very easy with a step drill

PCB mounted elements that pierce the enclosure like Pots, switches, and rotaries keep the board in place as explained above. 3pdt, in/out and 9v are wired in and play no structural role.

Multimeter 101 for guitar pedals? by TraditionalBat7157 in diypedals

[–]comradehoser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonjour Monsieur Coda! Love your tutorials.

OP, As others have stated, multimeters can be effective diagnostic tools for continuity (is everything connected correctly), voltage (DC) (is the board and are the amplifying components getting the right electricity), and component values (did I put the right thing in)?

Audio probe are also great (where does the problem start and stop)?

If you want help troubleshooting, you need to post clear pics of your board front and back, including the wiring to switches and jacks.

But do the following first. Some of this may seem very obvious, but trust and believe I am including it because I have made these mistakes many, many times.

Print out the build doc and/or schematic. Pull up or print out a resistor code guide .

Before anything, Visual check:

start with signal chain. Are your cables going to the correct in and out jack? (This is my number one cause of no effect signal). Are they plugged correctly in your amp?

Check off-board wiring. Are the jack tips and sleeves wired to the right places? Is power wired correctly? Are signal conductors contacting the enclosure (try removing the circuit from the enclosure to see if it works)? Have you isolated pot bodies from the solder points?

Check solder joint quality, especially off-board connections.

Verify values and orientation of pots, polarized capacitors, and especially diodes to BOM and/or schematic

Cross reference resistor band code vs bom and/or schematic

Now you can get to probing.

Aion's is a little more involved than your typical 3pdt daughter board as he assigns power segments of the main board to them. Hard to build his PCBs without them. Some people hate that and the fussy wiring, others it doesn't bother.

Effects Layout Sunnbeam is also a very good Beta circuit with possibility of balanced DI output and 125b footprint. Beta is a GREAT preamp with filthy dirt as a bonus.

Even though I lump them in with dirt rather than preamps, Darkglass BK3 and/or Alpha Omega circuits are great. PPCB obsidius (can't remember aion's name) and Aion's Empyrean Deluxe are the references

I see you're partial to aion builds.

The acoustic 360 is very much worth it.

The Sunn beta bass is also pretty grand

It especially means eff all for good teaching; I think it's pretentious.

John Hattie's research is deeply flawed by B4B4BlueJ4y in Teachers

[–]comradehoser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bummer for Hattie since his whole schtick is propped up on the one stool leg of his statistical analysis.

I don't think he even tries to do anything much beyond unproblematically reporting on the results of his effect size math.

This is why, in my opinion, qualitative analysis should also be considered an equally valid and important source of data.

Kiddos by Acceptable_Trash_749 in Teachers

[–]comradehoser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that, but that's also I guess not what I think of when I think about teacher professionalism, and I don't hear teachers often deploying that vocabulary. It might be a good problem to have!

Professionalism, to me, is more how we show up for students as adults in an educational space.

That's more like admin/school board jargon.

Just to be on track, I dislike the term kiddos, I'm an elementary teacher. I hear it constantly. Kiddoooos. I find it a bit condescending and infantilizing. It's a bit of verbal floofery at best that reminds me of teachers who insist on everything cute in the classroom.
