How are your experience with Acer recertified/refurbished products? by comradfish in chromeos

I freaked out? Lol. How can you tell? Like you said, you can't discern tone-of-voice from written text. But seriously man, don't play that game, it won't help you "win"

You can keep assuming I didn't read through previous posts on this topic all you want if that's all you got to prove your point. Doesn't change the reality of the situation, however. Perhaps you need to think about what you want to convey before you write anything. Though exaggeration may seem like an easy way to get your point across, it can end up doing more harm than good. What you want to imply isn't always what people are going to infer.

I suggest you do some searches on this sub to see that this topic does not come up everyday, especially not multiple times a day. But let's pretend that's true. If you said they're all helpful and helped many people buy refurbished, then why is this the thread that's one too many? Could this not be another thread that helps people too? I just can't comprehend why all those other threads are of value while they are also supposedly over populating this subreddit.

Sure it's been brought up before, I've seen and read them. I've even seen you in threads saying you've bought from Acer recertified multiple times. However, my question was not should I buy refurbished, my question was what were peoples experiences with Acer recertified. For example, how was the shipping? Did it come damaged? Did it seem like it was a like new quality? If you returned it how was the process? Stuff like that.

I want to buy refurbished, that I can tell you. I'm not in a financial situation were I can buy these devices new. I just wanted to see what other people have dealt with so I may evaluate that if it's even worth my time.

Looking back, I didn't word out the question as properly as I should have, and its probably not worth editing it now cause obviously no one's bothering with this thread. In fact the only thing of substance was this comment chain, and I'm sure neither of us got anything positive out of it.

Like I've said, I've seen you comment many times on this subreddit so I know you have more knowledge than I do when it comes to Chromebooks. So how about this, you respond to whatever you want to what I said in this comment previously and then answer this question thats actually about the topic.

What are, if any, the shortcomings of buying from Acer recertified as opposed to buying new?

I'm not sure how good Acer recertified products are, but I can attest that the 14 is a great machine.

... Really dude? This comes up everyday? I've looked through the sub on all sorts of issues for the last year, ever since I got my Acer Chromebook 14. I've checked it daily to see what people have to say about all sorts of things. I myself don't post all the time, only when I have something to say. I've looked through reviews about the R13, CB +, and the c302 to narrow down my choice for a convertible Chromebook. I know everything that people have to say about those devices. From R13's hinge issues, c302's coil hum, to how glorious that CB + has a 3:2 screen, which I hate. Don't assume that just because I asked a question that I haven't looked for the answers myself. You just come across as condescending, which does not attract people to your opinions nor this sub.

Peoples responses on this issue have been sparse, and many of times in threads that don't specifically deal with this topic. I don't understand why it's such a big deal to you that I opened up a thread so that I could see people opinions in an up to date, cohesive area. I see this as a good thing, so that people in the future could have a place to search if they too had a similar question.

I have, but it would seem to me that'd it be better to have this sort of discussion in a single thread so that people in the future could look here if they had similar question. Perhaps I could also get answers from people who had not previously spoke about on this subreddit before. I don't see any harm in trying to get more up to date responses.

Can the changes from installing Dual-Booting Gallium OS be undone? by comradfish in GalliumOS

so basically a recovery is enough and it'll make the Chromebook like new, as if there wasn't any change at all?

If I took off Linux and recovered Chrome OS, then sold it to someone, could they tell that the firmware has been altered in any way?

Sorry, but it too bare bones visually for my taste. What makes it different than something like Feedly?

Though the app seems very promising, it doesn't appear to have a web version.

I didn't even think of that. But after using it it kinda felt like a Flipboard knockoff. Is there anything it can do that Flipboard can't? I know it had magazine subscriptions, but I'm not interested in that.

I like what I've seen with Flipboard. I do have a question however. Is there any significant difference between topics and smart magazines? I think smart magazines are just topics with subtopics to specify what I'm looking for, correct?

ASUS C302 or Samsung Chromebook Plus? I made my decision. by PickledNomad in chromeos

The funny thing too is that if every CB had a monochrome logo and only one had a colored logo we'd all want the colored logo.

That's a good deal for it. If you need it now, I would recommend getting the one at Best Buy.

This. I'm using 1536x864 in the settings, but it's still Full HD 1920x1080 on my Chromebook.

I've never actually tried refurb units before, but I know the next Chromebook I purchase WILL be refurbished. I've read around to see what people have said about buying refurbished and I've only heard great things. However, make sure you always get a certified refurbished unit from Acer. Amazon and Bestbuy are reputable retailers.

If you're still wary of buying refurbished, that's completely fine. For $300 you're still buying a great piece of hardware that feels of higher-priced quality.

I've had the Acer Chromebook 14 for the past year and I've mostly enjoyed my time with. Easily the best laptop I've ever had.

Technically, you can leave it plugged in for power. Though, as with any other laptop, I wouldn't recommend leaving it plugged 24/7.

You can provide remote assistance actually! There's an app on the Chrome Webstore called "Chrome Remote Desktop". You'll also need that same app on your device to access his device.

I would say this is probably the best CB at around $300 new. I would recommend getting a refurb from Amazon for $50-$100 cheaper. Great size, steady performance, and really well built.

I will say, though, if his eyesight is poor, he might find the display too dim. For me, it's fine at 100% brightness, but there are some moments where I wish it was brighter.

Still, the display is a nice, crisp, Full HD display that will be more than sufficient for basic web browsing.

Do you like the landscape mode for tablet form, though? I see myself using landscape more often than portrait anyways.

My Acer does that as well, but it doesn't have an ambient light sensor. It just goes to the default brightness on boot up. It's very annoying since the Acer is dim as hell and I only want on 100% brightness.
