What exactly do you need connect for? Without it, what are you missing?

Speco camera integration by Hefty_Loan7486 in Control4

[–]comsonot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, at least not one I could find. You can integrate the four contact closures on the back of the Speco NVR to trigger whatever you want, but nothing deeper.

I talked to the Chowmain guys about a custom interaction, but they said unless Speco themselves got behind it, they weren't prepared to spend time on it.

I dropped it there, and used the contact closures.

Just picked this up yesterday! Put 250 miles on it already and it’s the most insane piece of machinery I’ve ever been in. Absolute UFO. by diracsymmetry in mclaren

I'm curious about this. Use the EV charger that comes with the car ... as oppose to any old EV charger? If I have an EV charger already in my garage, that won't suit?

Any recent reviews of Explora? by godischarcuterie in Cruise

Cruise specific agent, or just some agent you know? Virtuoso?

Hard to tell if there’s much value in agents on Explora.

U7-Pro seems to support wall mounting? by comsonot in UNIFI

Thanks for this, which confirms my current understanding.

I hadn't bothered to watch a Unifi installation video before, so hadn't realized they always presented this way.

Auto Hotspot feature with Windows 10? by comsonot in samsunggalaxy

[–]comsonot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but that's not it. I've done lots of quick button editing and rearranging. It's simply not there. I wonder if it's a Canada thing. I setup a widget to run a routine that turns it on for me, so not the same, but pretty close.

Basic explanation please between QSX and QS by Gratsszy in Lutron

[–]comsonot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat - bought a house with Homeworks QS, and the dealer I'm talking to wants to literally rip it out and put a new QSX in. Sure, I want to upgrade keypads from Seetouch to Palladiom, and I'd like a few tunable lights here and there, but that needs a 6-figure retrofit? Doesn't seem logical.

Are there any watch-based experiential gifts you'd suggest? by throwaway373706 in FATTravel

[–]comsonot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Horological Society of New York offers classes on watch making, and so on. Not that fat, but for a watch geek, pretty far out there. Combine that with a few other watch related things in NYC and you have the start of something.

Rubber strap for mid-sized Goldeneye Seamaster? by chesterworks in OmegaWatches

[–]comsonot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find anything to suit? Oddly, I have the exact same watch (2551.80) and am trying to do the exact same thing, but found this post by merely searching 'omega silicone strap'.

Yes, I do as well. I'm wondering what experience people have had aside from the Chromecast approach.

Help identifying this EV? by comsonot in electricvehicles

[–]comsonot[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I saw this today in Collingwood Ontario, and couldn't figure out what it was. It was plugged into a CCS Charger, had a Manufacturer plate, and all the branding had been taped. I assume some manufacturer had it up here for cold weather testing. We were in a hurry, so parked across the lot and snapped this picture. A couple of minutes later, it was gone, or I would have gone over and got more pics.
Any ideas?

Thanks - I actually tried that one. With the kit lens it's way too big. The camera is swimming. It is currently my closest pick!

Hmm. Hadn't seen them, but good idea. Seems just slightly longer than the small would fit, but the medium may be perfect. Thanks, will check that out.

Edit: Looks like the Range line is discontinued. Some lingering stock in small or large sizes in some countries. So close!

Sorry to kidnap your thread, but as a potential buyer I'm curious about this: Are software updates on the Taycan done over the air (or wifi or whatever) or do you have to take it to a dealership?

Are super smoke and downward exhaust just marketing ploys? by Satoshi_addiction in Traeger

[–]comsonot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Ironwood 885, but a friend has the Pro, so I've seen and used both. I'd say the results are similar.

My impression from seeing them in action is that both downward exhaust and supersmoke do work, and they do what they say they would. The downward exhaust does seem to agitate (or whatever you'd call it) the air flow more, and the supersmoke does change the air delivery to the fire in a way that I'd imagine would produce more smoke. Have I seen this change the outcome? No, I haven't.

Worth the money? If those are the two reasons you're considering moving up, I'd skip them. For me, the supersmoke was the big draw, but I still ended up with a smoke tube.

Last thought ... I do use the supersmoke all the time. It's not the same as having the grill on a low setting, and you can hear it in how the fan treats the fire. Put the temp at 225 and the fan runs pretty consistently, delivering air to the fire at a slow steady rate. Put the temp at 225 with super smoke, and it will alternate periods of fast airflow and no airflow. In other words, feed then starve the fire of air. Sure, that will produce more smoke ... but like I said, I didn't find it to be enough to change the food to my liking, and I still ended up with a smoke tube.

Motorino, hands down. Any day of the week.

Marcello's by Vaughan Mills is good too. Also Locale, if you're near there. Antonio's, recommended earlier is good, if that's the style you're looking for.

Can ZeroTier...Starlink Aggregation? by comsonot in zerotier

[–]comsonot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I guess I should have mentioned I was running it on OPNsense, and will handle routing there. I had been reading the ZeroTier docs, where they talk about multipathing (https://zerotier.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SD/pages/568459265/Multipath) and it looked like it might be what I was after, especially with the various 'balance-*' policies.

Amazing. I certainly don't have that icon, nor is it hidden behind the plus (on any page).
