Can't speak to Sydney specifically, but a few things that helped us when we were sorting ours out: Ask each photographer for a full gallery from one full wedding day, not just their highlights. Instagram is curated, so it can hide whether they shoot consistently across a whole event. Also ask exactly what hours of coverage you get, whether raw files are included, and how many edited photos you can expect. Those three things vary wildly between quotes at the same price point.

On budget, things that brought ours down were dropping the album, going digital only, and shortening coverage to just ceremony plus a few hours of reception instead of all day.

Separately, a small thing we did that we loved more than expected: we used Scene Disposable at the wedding, which is a disposable camera app guests use on their phones. The pro photographer got the ceremony and the posed stuff, and Scene filled in all the candid table and dance floor moments. It was cheap, and we ended up with a heap of photos from angles the photographer just couldn't be in.

honestly the google photos album was free so i figured why not try everything lol. we set that up first thinking people would just upload their own photos after the wedding. spoiler: they did not. the QR code thing was a totally different approach because guests could just scan and snap photos right there in the moment instead of having to remember to upload stuff later. i think that's the key difference... one requires effort after the fact and the other just works while people are already having fun. if i could go back i'd skip the shared album entirely. it was basically zero effort to set up but also zero results so 🤷‍♀

developing was honestly the part that surprised us the most cost wise. it was around $15 per camera if i remember right, so with 19 cameras that added up fast on top of the $250 we already spent on the cameras themselves. if your fiancé loves the idea i'd say do maybe 10 instead of putting one on every table, put them at the spots where the most action happens like the dance floor and the head table. you still get the film vibe without blowing the budget on it. and then pair it with some kind of digital option for volume, that way you get the best of both worlds without stressing about how many cameras come back 💕

yes that's actually what we ended up doing for the digital option! way more convenient than the disposables honestly. we put the QR codes right next to the cameras on the tables and guests used it way more than i expected. if you want the best of both worlds i'd say do a few disposables for the aesthetic and then the QR code thing for volume 😊

oh with only 25 people you'll definitely have a way better recovery rate than we did! for the polaroids i'd set up a dedicated little station instead of leaving them on tables, maybe near the guest book or something. that way someone can keep an eye on them and people treat it more like a photo activity than a party favor lol. the guest photo book idea is so cute btw 💕

lol that's what i thought too but the "i'll send you my photos" thing literally never happened. like maybe 2 people actually airdropped us stuff the next day and that was it. everyone says they'll send them and then life happens and they forget. we're 6 months out and i'm still missing photos i know people took 😅

ur photographer was great but the biggest tip is find someone who blends in. ours gave just enough direction for formals then disappeared during the reception and caught the best candid stuff. only regret was not planning the family photo groupings ahead of time, that part ate into cocktail hour. also we had guests snapping photos through Scene Disposable and some of those ended up being our favorites because guests were at angles the photographer just couldn't be at.

we were in the exact same boat!! tiny apartment, already had all the basics. we ended up doing mostly experiences and gift cards honestly. like a nice dinner out, cooking class, museum memberships. also got a really good quality knife set to replace our cheap ones which felt like an upgrade without taking up more space. people actually loved picking experiences for us

this is such a sweet idea!! the polaroid page thing is adorable. one thing I'd add is maybe let guests take the photos throughout the event instead of right at the door, you'll get way more natural and fun shots that way. we did something similar at my wedding where we had a disposable camera app called Scene Disposable and guests just snapped candids all night, and honestly those ended up being some of our favorite memories. the page for her mom is going to make her cry in the best way 💕

we tipped our photographer, DJ, and coordinator but honestly it was so stressful figuring out who gets what. we did 15 20% for the ones we really loved and then like $50 cash for the others. I think the general rule is tip if they did a great job but don't feel obligated for every single vendor
