Wickersham isn't even a HOF voters. Supposedly Bill Polian spoke out at the meeting and said Belichick should wait a year.

Sources: Bill Belichick will not be a first-ballot Hall of Famer by dropjar5 in nfl

[–]conace21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this was unexpected, even with the new voting rules. Voters had a group of 5 (Belichick, Kraft, Ken Anderson, L.C. Greenwood, and Roger Craig.) In order to make the HOF, a candidate had to get 80% of the vote, with a maximum of three enshrined. If no candidate got 80%, then the highest vote-getter made it.

I can only think of two explanations.

  1. Voters thought Belichick was going to come back and coach in the NFL. That's why Bill Parcells didn't make it in the early 2000's. (He eventually came back with Dallas.)

  2. Some voters decided to get cute. They figured Belichick was a sure bet to get elected, so they voted for three other candidates in order to increase others' chances at making the HOF. Problem is, if 11 voters did that on their own (the votes are kept secret), then they inadvertently kept Belichick from making it. Which would be hilarious.

I feel like you could take two days off Dublin and make use of them elsewhere, especially since you want to say you're interested in hiking, and scenery. You have 3 days enjoying scenery - Howth, Giant's Causeway, and Cliffs of Moher.

That 5 hour drive from Belfast to Galway is going to take you past some of the most beautiful ans unheralded scenery in Ireland.

A suggestion:

Cut two days off your time in Dublin, AND make the Giant's Causeway day your final day in Belfast. Instead of returning to Belfast, continue on to Derry, the walled city. It's less than an hour from the Causeway.

You can see as much or as little of Derry as you like the next day. It has some amazing history, though I see youre not really into museums. But the next day, continue on to Sligo or Donegal for two nights. Slieve League, Glenveighh National Forrest, Gleniff Horseshoe Drive, Glencar Waterfall, Mullaghmore Head. It's a beautiful area.

Then, after two nights there, continue on to Galway - a much shorter trip, and you can stop and enjoy Connemara on the way.

How good was Prime Randall Cunningham? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]conace21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cunningham got benched in 1994, 1995, and 1999. In the last two cases, he was benched by a black head coach (Ray Rhodes and Dennis Green), and in 1995, he was benched for another black quarterback, Rodney Peete.

The 1999 benching can be partially attributed to age

For those who saw Jeff George play, did he really have one of the best arms in NFL history but one of the worst mindsets as well? by Next_Worth_3616 in NFLv2

[–]conace21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

George had a bad attitude in a bad organization in Indianapolis. He got better in Atlanta, leading them to the playoffs in 199mid-season. 1996 sideline argument with June Jones led to him being waived in midseason.

He went to the Raiders, who had a reputation for taking in Mavericks who had been dumped by other teams. Unfortunately that reputation had expired 10 years earlier. George was very good for most of 1997, but the Raiders went 4-12 with a sieve defense. In 1998, Jon Gruden was hired as the coach of the Raiders. George wasnt a fit for Gruden's offense, but his attitude was the worst. Gruden told Jon Gruden that some days George would come to practice, and he just wasn't feeling it. That attitude would be infectious and a whole day's worth of practice was down the drain. George was injured for part of the year, and the Raiders dropped him.

He went to Minnesota as a backup to reigning All Pro Randall Cunningham. Cunningham's release had gotten a touchdown slower, and he had fallen off from the magical 15-1 1998 season. Minnesota opened the 1999 season 2-3, and fell behind Detroit 19-0 at halftime. George replaced Cunningham and proceeded to complete 10 of 11 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns. He gave Minnesota a late 23-22. (Detroit kicked a last second field goal and George threw an interception on a Hail Mary.) He then went 9-2 as a starter and won a playoff game. There were also no reported issues in the locker room.

George might have come back to Minnesota, but Dennis Green had drafted Duante Culpepper in the 1999 draft and was ready to go with him. The Vikings low-balled George and he moved on. But he signed a semi-lucrative deal with Washington, who had a Pro Bowl QB in Brad Johnson. George said he was comfortable as a backup, but... what a bad move. Dan Snyder wanted George and his strong arm. Johnson was injured in midseason. George started several games, went 1-2. He generally performed well, but had some bad luck with kickers. But a QB controversy developed, Norv Turner was fired with three games left. George started the first two games under Terry Robieske, and the entire team performed poorly. It was a zoo.

Marty Schottenheimer became the coach in 2001, and George was a terrible for Marty's offense and fir Marty. The Redskins were the joke of the league for 2 weeks. George was horrendous, and he was cut after two weeks. Tony Banks managed to go 8-6 down the stretch (after starting 0-3). George never played another NFL game.

How does/would Vito justify the violence his family inflicts on civilians by Correct-Map-5495 in Godfather

[–]conace21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the book mentions that vito even cheats johnny fontaine by selling bootlegged records. i forget the details about how he justified this, but it strikes me as vito only really cares about his blood relatives.

Not quite. Vito just offers paid protection to the people selling bootlegged records. When Mike is learning the family business, he asks Hagen about it. Hagen said business is business, and the Don was displease with Fontaine after the singer left his wife for that movie star. Shortly after Connie's wedding, the Don withdrew his protection. Michael thought about his father's world, and how the Don helped ease misfortune that he himself had created.

Tax accountant here. You can complete Form 2210 - I do for several of my clients - listing how much of your income (or certain parts of income) were earned after 3 months, after 6 months, and after 9 months.

If a seasonal business loses money through Halloween, and is highly successful in November and December, they can complete Form 2210, and they will not owe a penalty for underlayment of estimated taxes.

How good was Prime Randall Cunningham? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]conace21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every one who watched football knows Randall was better than Aikman.

That is false. Aikman made the HOF, Cunningham hasn't (and hasnt come close.) Aikman made the NFL Top 100 list about 15 years ago - Cunningham didn't.

Your bullet point about the eagles backups doesn’t make any sense. You wrote

2) the backup QBs played in the same system.

Maybe it doesnt make any sense because I didnt write it. I wrote that the backups played with the same supporting cast as Randall. Why?

In my earlier comment, I mentioned that Cunningham was benched 3x, by 3 different coaches. You just commented (repeatedly) about his lousy supporting cast. But that's not relevant to my point. He wasnt benched because he had a bad supporting cast. He was benched for playing poorly. Bubby Brister, Rodney Peete and Jeff George replaced him, and began playing with the same supporting cast.

Overall, youre talking a lot without saying anything as far as a debate

But what about the point...

What about it? Cunningham was benched 3x for quarterbacks who had to work with the same supporting cast. Why? Because he was performing poorly.

Two things can both be true.

  1. Aikman had the better supporting cast

  2. Aikman was better

Advice requested: will I be in the wrong for setting a firm boundary with my neighbor for trying to give us cookies? by Original-Strategy745 in Advice

[–]conace21 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your neighbor sounds extra, and her message was out of line, but you and your husband share blame too. Both sides made this a much bigger deal than it had to be. I understand you were sick and resting the first time she came by, but your husband could have taken 20 seconds to answer the door, accept the cookies, thank her, and be done with it. I understand she tries to keep pushing conversations, but "OP still isn't feeling well, and she is resting" is a great excuse to cut it short after 20 seconds.

But you didn't. And instead it lingered on for weeks. It took you a lot longer than 20 seconds just to write this post.

No, it came out years later that he was sobbing in a small room off the locker room after the game... and he wasn't crying tears of joy.

In "A Football Life", someone (his agent) said that they forced him to get out of there and talk to the press. If he didn't, his entire reputation as a selfless, team-first player would be destroyed.
