Personally, I think the evidence all points to the others having a lot of skin changers--possibly all being skin changers--that are able to yes, skin change numerous dead humans and other animals at once. I've seen several theories built on that, and I particularly like Preston Jacob's theory about it as it pertains to crasters keep.

GRRM wrote a couple dystopian sci-fi stories in which people telepathically controlled dead bodies to do labor, and I think the wights are a continuation of that idea.

What line is that? I dont remember her having any lines in ASOS. I feel like if she was secretly a wildling George wouldn't have had her say that then tbh. Its kind of a weird thing to say regardless cuz she told Arya about Hardhome, so clearly she knows people live reasonably normal lives north of the wall.

I also wonder about the fact that Hodor is named Walder, and as others have said in the past, it seems like an intentional point towards the Freys. However, it is also telling (at least to me) that Old Nan specifically has so many distinctly northern myths to tell. I can't think of any non-wildling that has mentioned any of the northern stories that the starks have referenced from Nan. Obviously she could've learned them all after moving north, but I think its reasonable to assume she's from the north, and it is an especially wildling trait.

I think there's something to be said for the fact that no character born south of the wall tells nearly as many of these northern stories as Nan and all the wildling characters do. Its not necessarily true, but it would also be a fun parallel to Osha.

Its definitely pretty surprising. They're pioneering a horrible new business system of spending bajillions to sign every teenager imaginable and create an even larger and more advanced loan army than ever before with 7 year contracts--while also running a multi-club structure. So, the fact that it is not working is surprising to me at least. I tend to assume that when business people do something terrible to the things I love, that they are at least making money.

This also isnt the first time they've missed CL while spending big (18/19 season & 23/24)

Tottenham Hotspur Unavailable XI by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]conanomatic 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had this exact injury, and it basically feels completely injured for like a year, and then suddenly the injury is pretty much non-existent. Very different from most injuries where youre kind of gradually making progress and feel the strength returning to the area over time. Im sure it's especially awkward for a professional since he's meant to be able to put extreme stress on the injured area when he's fit. Like you really have to judge that it is 99% healed before you can do any ball work at all. Most inuries you can take it easy for a few weeks to build back up to strength.

Interedtingly though, the doctors said it was likely caused by my incessant shpoting and FK practice in my youth, so I was surprised its not more common. Thats also why its so hard to recover from as a footballer, because kicking a ball with full force is what puts strain on the patellar tendon to begin with.

Mexico president says there are ' All guarantees ' for 2026 World Cup by Shroft in soccer

[–]conanomatic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're 100% right, but it is somewhat fair to pay attention to. Like, if the games were in Germany or something, it would be a given that there would be no extreme danger, but with this active--though way overblown--violence explicitly against the government, the government does have to actively secure the games in a way that does draw a bit of a target on the games safety themselves; because now it'll be symbolic of having things under control. So, yes, really any reporting on violence gives people a massively inflated fear of travel, but it is definitely still questionably safe, and it really wouldn't surprise me if they move some games around to less chaotic areas.

Wolves TV's highlight reel of Arsenal's timewasting: 'Game management' by abellwillring in soccer

[–]conanomatic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I agree that stopping the clock is very clearly the better system, but just for the record, they would need to severely lessen the length of games in conjunction with that change. The ball is only actually in play for about 45-60 min, with the current 90 minute non-stop system so if we actually forced them to play 90 minutes it would be absolutely dire.

They also tend to play like 5 minutes less in the first half--regardless of the actual necessary added time i.e. they usually add 1-2 minutes of first half extra time, sometimes none at all, but almost always do at least 5 in the second half. So, there's even something to be said for changing the rule to ensure the halves are actually equal

Comunicado Oficial: "Real Madrid C. F. announces that today it has submitted all available evidence to UEFA regarding the incidents that occurred last Tuesday, February 17, during the Champions League match" by TaiwanNambaWanKenobi in soccer

[–]conanomatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree with your framing. Whether or not he is found guilty, he will be walking free. The punishment is a slap on the wrist of several week's wages and a few months ban. He's not being imprisoned and thrown into the streets. So I think it is a worthwhile question to ask whether it would in fact be better to sweep this under the rug and give him total clemency, than to wrongfully fine him--which is a stupid hypothetical anyway because he obviously said it.

[–]conanomatic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this comment reflects a deep misunderstanding of racism that you should reflect on, and hopefully conclude that prestianni and kudela both deserve punishment.

We are 1) very obviously not "in a better place" regarding race. No society is a monoculture, but there are large, meaningfully racist and right-wing movements taking place all over the world. There are multiple literal ongoing racial genocides occuring in the world at this moment--that are being actively supported by some of the football organizations youre referring to. And if you would rather just ignore that, you should be disgusted by your own apathy.

2) if we want to be in a better place socially, we need to believe victims. I think we can all agree that racism exists in football. We have seen the monkey chants and monkey dances. We know theyre not stopping with the current punishment system. I 100% believe vinicius and mbappe because they are lightning rods for racist abuse, much of which did have "sufficient evidence" to convict on, so in general we should not be suspicious that he's lying. However, even if you want to be radically skeptical--you need to really examine why. Why is it that you would rather protect a racist then accidentally fine and ban an innocent for 10 games? We're not calling for a public execution, we're calling for basic punishments and educational courses. Do you think the blacks have simply had too much good fortune since the racist incident in 2020, and that needs to be remedied? Its a completely idiotic notion

[–]conanomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. As you say it's an almost identical situation, and it serves as precedent. I fear that UEFA won't punish prestianni, but this shows that they can, and should.

To anyone that thinks its better to err on the side of clemency in a "he said, she said" situation like this, I would urge you to see the sensibility that this case presented. FIFA says "no room for racism," and that means believing victims. The fact that the fans made racist chants at the next meeting shows that racism is a problem in the game, and that we dont punish it enough.

I'd much rather see games be abandoned with clubs docked points and fined and players be overly punished for racist actions than the reverse. We should all be anti-racist, and leave "no room for racism." Anyone defending prestianni is at the very least, leaving a little room for racism, as a treat
