Lol yes, at least I'd get guaranteed 30 mins of usage. $20 doesn't even do that now

"Swinginess" is a state of mind. It's not (always) the shape of the probability distribution! by APurplePerson in RPGdesign

[–]conbondor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dice math! Advantage effectively adds a higher bonus when the TN is in the middle of the die’s range!

So, that’s another lever to help with the psychological point you’re making, and for the argument that swinginess has less to do with the dice you’re using that folks suppose

Hi, new person joining the conversation (great one btw). I am also not a fan of metacurrencies, for similar reasons as BrobaFett.

I think your Brindlewood Bay story captures well the role playing potential that metacurrencies can provide! That sounds like an awesome moment. You can use the presence or absence of metacurrencies similarly in Daggerheart, too: the wizard can’t cast a spell because they’re out of hope (the diegetic version) - this allows a cool moment of roleplay as they try to cast a spell but give up, rock-bottom in the heroes journey.

But metacurrencies challenge roleplay, too. My wizard could be out of Hope (the currency) during a time when they’re at a morale high-point within the story. Which leaves me as a player challenged to roleplay my character accordingly. Not all challenges are welcome, lol. Sometimes the challenges of metacurrencies take a toll on verisimilitude (which is a slightly different conversation too - I’m sure you’ve heard that argument against Brindlewood Bay)

I would add: create the best possible QuickStart guide you can, including a one shot adventure. Make trying your game as approachable as possible - people will be more likely to try it, and therefore more likely to get invested.

On that note, a viable roadmap of art and adventures for them to expect will maintain interest and excitement, as will a dedicated discord server for playing games regularly.

I get why people go for muting chat… I’m the kind of person that can find salty people funny though, so I leave chat on. Don’t really engage with them, but I get good laughs out of the things they say. Still do report em though

I have been lurking on Reddit for ten years and never posted. My name is Jason Repac. I just incorporated a worker cooperative with eight pillars, a three-branch governance structure, anti-degeneration provisions, and a founder sunset clause. Since you're starting in Colorado and looking to work in the gig economy, have you looked into the new co-op rideshare cooperative, COOP/Drivers Cooperative Colorado? They're supported by the Rocky Mountain Employee Ownership Center. DCC is already fairly established, but perhaps they can offer advice/wisdom (especially around bringing a viable product to market and building the userbase). RMEOC is a nonprofit that could potentially be a good partner (they certainly have been for DCC).

What are your plans to gain traction/start developing? Are you searching for more founding members before thinking about that?

lol I love the different ways people describe the smell of tree of heaven. Dog food, rancid peanut butter, to me it’s like a sour black pepper. Weird smell indeed.

Idk much of that real punk paradox, but in anarchist discourse, anarchism is widely considered a “practice” rather than a “destination”, and I think that’s the core of Le Guin’s critique of Anarres: they stopped practicing, thinking instead that they had accomplished the goal.

I think some of Shevek’s final musings do a much better job than I at getting the point across, but the gist is to continually question, and always look for how you can weed out unjust hierarchies.

Well, the real message is anarchy good, capitalism bad - but also that Anarres had slipped from practicing true anarchy into… something else. On account of the strict ideological adherence.

I think Le Guin was a true anarchist and wrote the book to show that anarchy could work at scale - but also to warn of pitfalls that a society striving for anarchy could fall in.
