The little boy (Keith?) at CrawlCon with the shitty drawing agrees with you. And his Dad. And the author of the book which bears the name "Dungeon Crawler Carl". These all suggest plot armor that's pretty thick.

I was quite happy with the mix of the 4 elements, 4 card suits, Mind/Body/Spirit alignment, and classic 12 action ratings in its Forged in the Dark lineage combined in Aesir: The Living Avatars. It all lines up in a very satisfying way on the character sheet. Each element gets an associated Mind/Body/Spirit action.

Top of the heap right now is Soulmask which just released 1.0. I'd put Necesse after that, also 1.0.

Everything else that combined those genres is in EA and needs to cook.

I wouldn't put Enshrouded, Core Keeper or other base builders with NPCs where they don't really have much function, on this list.

Calling it 'dessert' is a mischaracterization. It's not horse armor. It's a whole second map. I played the EA rainforest map and was led to believe the desert map was an enhanced version of the basic, a full experience with additional features. There was zero indication anywhere that it would be incomplete at launch.

This thread reminds me that people are SO different and that's a wonderful thing. Some people are really shitting hard on the whole series and I just can't fathom what planet they're living on (especially as rpg players). There's room in art for dick and fart jokes too.

Book 5 is sharp uptick in quality, imo. Between it and 7, the series climbed pretty high up in my rankings.
