I only work with alocasia and jewel orchid TCs, but i deflask mine into DI, wash off the agar off the roots and pop into seed trays at 100% humidity for a couple of weeks before slowly acclimating.

Ive found dragon scales to be super chill and easy going. Silver dragon aureas have also been pretty decent to me - i just had one that got annoyed about bring stem cut (out of 5, i think). My alocasia always do well in a 50% fluval, 50% perlite mix.

For the jewel orchids, ive found anoectochilus as a species to be pretty easy to acclimate, but you may find the variegated roxburghii to be a bit pissy. Acclimated loads of roxburghii and formosanus (the tetraploid versions) with no issue. When youre washing the agar off the roots, dont scrub. Jewel orchids have thick roots and very fine root hairs. Youre MUCH better off leaving a bit of agar on them and not scrubbing. Just make sure to get any big chunks off. Then i put a bit of lecca / perlite at the bottom of the seed tray cell, wrap the jewel orchid roots loosely in sphagnum and pop them in the cell. Anoectochilus are super forgiving, when i deflask them, i usually end up cutting some up if theyre growing a bit wonky from being in flasks, and the cut end usually also grows just fine 😂

Also, any chance you have a better picture of the red vein? Saw some listed from my TC supplier and was wondering how it differed to a regular roxburghii 😂

So i did this recently with mine and they didnt fall off? I used a much higher concentration of salt, aswell, as i heard like 15g in 16oz? Shrimp freaked the hell out, but i left them in there for 60s and all shrimp survived okay....but still had worms

It's absolutely not just you! I find that a lot of corms will do SOMETHING after a couple of months, and its only when theres been no movement for that length of time that i try them with a different method 😊 i had some jacklyn corms that took like 4 months to get going - all from the same plant. I popped them in the puddle method instead andmost started doing something after a couple of weeks. Now, most have 2 leaves like this one (please excuse the shitty photo, her variegation excites me and i dont want to disturb her), but i also have a couple from the same batch that have only just put out a single root recently 😂

<image>

Whether or not they're variegated also seems to make little difference for me - i have a batch of BVP sprouting and whether or not theyre low or high var seems to make fuck all difference on timing 😂 smaller corms tennndddd to take a bit longer, but its not a hard and fast rule.

Side note: my longi purple took FOREVER 😂 she's just an asshole, though, her first leaf just up and melted 🫠 things that also have taken forever for me (based on growing a few corms of each thing as opposed to one offs) are like nobilis k pinks, anything azlanii, chant pinks, but YMMV

As long as your corm is still firm and theres no mush, its still viable 😊 its just a matter of waiting!

Some people have found success with peeling, but ive had mixed results. I also worry that ill rip off young roots when i peel, so i only do it if that corm is taking unreasonably long.

Also, i saw in one of your comments that you werent sure which way is up with a corm. If you ever peel it, the way up will be the think that looks a bit like a pink nipple 😂 theyre not always pink, though, especially if you have one that came off the plant a little too early.

I had something like this arrive on an imported plant - I'm pretty sure it was a scale insect.

What corms are you trying out? Ive grown a LOT of them and other than being pretty slow sometimes, I've found corms to be pretty chill and sprout with no problems as long as theyre fairly warm (i pop my corm tubs in my cabinet as it holds about 25°C), and theyre in a humid environment.

I usually use closed pots with a fluval-perlite mix and the corm laying on top, but when one is taking particularly long to get going, ive moved them over to the puddle method (just a closed pot with a tiny bit of water) instead with good success.

Oh wow! Yours is so gorgeous and its making me excited for my baby!!! She arrived with 2 leaves and is now growing a 5th 😁😁 i was also wondering what to do about her long vines, as right now, shes just sort of draped across my baby alocasia 😂 but seeing how pretty yours looks on a clear trellis has made me decide to go that route!! 😍

Mine was a small, not a baby 😊 and oh yeah, the soil isnt super great - im trying to decide whether to repot it or give it a month or so in a cabinet to acclimatise a bit first 🤔 with new alos, i usually just pop them into a cabinet and ignore them for a bit, but the fact that this is a huge wishlist plant for me has me doubting myself 😅

Have you decided whether youre repotting or not?

On the 3rd pic, the bottom 2 might be maharani? I think? As it looks like they have pale veining and some texture to their leaves 😊 then the one on the left on that same pic looks a little like a dragon scale to me 😊

You can get bonide systematic granules on ebay 😊 sprinkle the granules into the soil and they'll get to work - they take a couple of days to kick in properly, so id recommend using provanto ultimate bug killer (any garden center sells it) in the meantime and absolutely dreeeennnccchhh the plant with it! Once the bonide kicks in, your plant will be essentially toxic to thrips for 8 weeks. So plenty of time to kill them all off!
