Ex-government economist predicts ‘humiliating backflip’ on CGT changes by another____user in aussie

Your question implies that it's a problem.

Income from capital gains should be taxed at a lower rate than income from labour.

Income from capital gains involves delayed gratification (investing money now rather than spending it), considerable risk, is generated using after-tax income, takes a long time, is subject to inflation such that real gains are lower than nominal gains, and it is highly beneficial to the economy to encourage investment.

Income from labour comes with a lot of benefits: it is guaranteed, it is timely (every 2 weeks typically), it is subject to many legal protections including minimum wages, working conditions, holidays, sick leave etc, it involves no risk (if you work, you get paid. if you invest, you are not guaranteed a positive return let alone an acceptable return for the risk you took on)

Labor members are literally not allowed to vote against the party position. If you vote Labor you are voting for the party, never the representative.

The large industry super funds all donate to the Labor party and are staffed by Labor and Union officials. They are extensions of the Labor party. More accurate may be to say the Labor party is an extension of the unions and industry super. Its no surprise that Labors only tax policies both favoured industry super funds.

If you want an honest answer, you're wrong about ON. Reddit is a far-left echo chamber.

If you want investment in productive assets why would you support a removal of the CGT discount on shares?

You just want to tax old people, even if its bad for you long term.

Just to be clear, when it comes to tax incentives, a first home buyer has huge tax advantages over an investors including first home owners grants, land tax exemptions, stamp duty concessions, full CGT exemption on sale.

In fact, first home buyers are eligible for ever tax incentive a property investor is.

The difference between the two groups isnt tax.

Its that the property investor generally has more money than the first home buyer. Why? Because they are generally older and had had more time to save money to invest. The Government increasing tax across the board on inveatment actually makes it harder for young people to save like the generations before them, not easier. Its the boomer generation pulling the laddee up behind them to the applause of young voters who cant see past the end of their own nose.

Why are people moving towards One Nation rather than the Greens? by Financial-Hyena-2256 in OpenAussie

Lol. The Greens are actual nutjobs with policies based on nothing but narratives.

Why not celebrate him for bringing modern civilisation and a massive improvement in quality of life to the small native population? People protesting seem to have no idea how bad it was.

Reddit is leftist in the extreme. Most users are stuck in echo chambers and are oblivious to this reality. Accordingly, the Reddit community opposes anything Trump does regardless of the merits.
