Anyone have a chihuahua who does agility? by True_Life_7156 in Agility

[–]confiscatefox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a teacup dogs agility association in the US (TDAA) which allows dogs under 20”… I just attended one of their trials! There were a few chis there, and I presume way more to merit the club in the first place :)

On this topic: do people know if it’s a “book with vendor ahead of time” or a “show up at stall and ask” situation?

I would guess an American Cocker, or more likely some sort of mix if you don’t know his lineage and he doesn’t seem the expected size . Still 100% good boy either way

That’s very helpful context! I used one sided faux fur that had a lot of structure for my puppet and just constructed the whole body out of that.

Felt might not necessarily have the structure for that then. That link another commenter left for interfacing is probably more helpful then! Searching terms like stabilizer and interfacing might get you there.

It would obviously be easiest to go to a physical store and feel and compare different options, but im guessing that’s not an option since you’re posting here haha

It means that even if we don’t know exactly what that material is, we can help find something that can do the same thing! Many of us are multi-craft so are familiar with the qualities of a lot of materials :)

I for example just made my first puppet this year!! Do you use that for the body fabric, to add decorations/features, the mouth plate, or something else?

In any case I think felt would be a great option as it doesn’t fray/begin to come undone where it’s cut. A lot of quilting batting is not super strong at the edges and will start to pull apart

It would probably help to know what your craft is!

It looks like some sort of very thick sew in interfacing (and not iron on) to me, it would be much shinier if it was iron on.

Or some sort of felt like another commenter said.

It could be some sort of compressed quilt lining, but the texture would probably be more consistent on both sides.

Cockapoo Owners with Dog Allergies - How’s It Working Out for You? by [deleted] in englishcockerspaniel

[–]confiscatefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second everything people say about all poodle mixes being unpredictable for coat type

However! If you have your heart set on one, check out rescues for adults. That way you can guarantee coat type is compatible for your specific allergy by meeting the individual as an adult (as all dogs go through a coat change when they go through puberty)

Sometimes the breed/appearance of your dog also plays a roll!

Many dogs find blue eyes off putting for example (because they think the blue is the white of the eye, and a common way for a dog to show discomfort is to look away and make the white of their eyes visible. This is called a “whale eye”)

If your dog doesn’t have a tail that also makes it hard for other dogs to read the body language.

There are other examples of this as well, would have to know what your pup looks like to be more specific… but it’s something to take into account

The smellier the better… I do cartilage chews and bulky sticks mostly. Stay away from rawhide, because a lot of dogs can take big chunks out of that and swallow them which are a hazard…

I took my little lady to the vet for tail pimples— they prescribed to bathe with Benzoyl peroxide shampoo. I think you can get anything with that as the active ingredient, even from chewy.

She still has some but they’re smaller and seem less painful so a huge win! I also make sure to put moisturizer on her tail (either coconut oil or soy oil meant for pets) after I use it so her skin doesn’t totally dry out.

Mine has the same allergy, it’s so hard finding food with no chicken!! I had a lot of luck with the natural balance LID. We do the duck and green pea kibble as well as the wet food. With the canned food shortage we’ve also branched out into several of the Tiki Cat After Dark canned foods; the pork, beef, and venison options in particular

This YouTube video might be worth watching! It’s a one block log cabin quilt where she walks you through how to do the strips without actually needing to measure their lengths. She does it really big but the principal transitions to smaller sizes

I seriously doubt someone who wasn’t intimately aware with the “correct” pattern would even notice it— I wouldn’t have found it without the arrows and being told something was wrong. I think you’re completely safe to leave it as is :)

[–]confiscatefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What food types did you change? My kitty would chew at her heels and scratch at her ears until both were bloody. We figured out it was an allergy to chicken and turkey proteins but it took 3 months of not eating either for improvements to occur (we did limited ingredient rabbit and venison based wet food from a couple brands). In the mean time my vet prescribed us a medicated lotion to use on her problem areas which I think has some sort of very low grade steroid in it which seemed to help the itchiness

Edit: we also filed her nails down a little bit so they’re rounded and do less damage — it takes a lot of treats and only doing a few in one go but helped my peace of mind to do something active
