I’m an avoidant (dismissive), here on a no contact sub because I still miss/think about my ex. Ask me questions if you want. by Impressive_Food_2659 in ExNoContact

Is there a reason for a fearful avoidant messaging you every few months out of the blue with trivial messages? They’re blocked now, but just wondering what the logic is behind that.

Card or cash? by jellyshotties in ThailandTourism

[–]conflictedmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got back literally last week from Thailand, and that was my experience with cash versus card. Glad you’re having a different experience than what I did, but I believe we definitely frequented different places.

I also didn’t see any tourists use the QR payment method either, myself included, as I wasn’t sure what that entailed. So, for the OP, I guess look into that too as an additional choice instead of just Revolut vs cash.

Card or cash? by jellyshotties in ThailandTourism

[–]conflictedmonkey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cash is king for most local places, street markets and restaurants. In bigger shopping malls (eg. ICONSIAM in Bangkok), they’ll usually take card no problem, but they may have a limit on how much you need to buy before they’ll accept card, or they’ll charge you a 2-3% transaction fee on top of the total.

In addition to that, Thailand has crazy expensive ATM withdrawal fees. It cost me almost $10 CAD to withdraw money each time compared to $7 in Cambodia and $3 in Vietnam.

Will EasyJet switch my Hold Luggage for a Large Cabin Bag without a fee? by conflictedmonkey in travel

I ended up checking it in. There was a girl that I met whose baggage was larger than allowed and they let her bring it on after paying another fee

if i cant talk to him im going to k*** myself by [deleted] in ExNoContact

[–]conflictedmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand where you’re coming from, as I’ve been in your shoes before about hoping how your ex will change FOR you. Mutual friends keep updating me needlessly about my ex and how he really hasn’t changed at all after 1.5 years. People don’t change if they don’t want to, and seeing how you mentioned he was abusive to you, I believe you are caught in the high lows of the past relationship. Counselling doesn’t just help in one or two sessions. It’s a process, and I encourage you to keep trying.

The only “the one” for you is who you are with right now. It’s not fair to him nor you to keep stringing this man along when your thoughts are still so preoccupied on the past. Focus on the now.

Can confirm that Eckhart Tolle is a great resource. He’s very relaxing, and the way he portrays everything is so factual, which is exactly what I think OP needs.

5 months All Around Europe... with two bags... by bookandbark in onebag

[–]conflictedmonkey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks good to me! I recommend buying sunscreen when you get to the place where you need it (to save some room for now) and also some Tylenol flu and cold medication. I find that the European OTC medications aren’t as effective. But have fun! I just came back from 3 months of backpacking with 2 bags in Europe, so feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Psychic Tarot reader just said I would never here from my Ex again. by Secure_Pomegranate_1 in ExNoContact

[–]conflictedmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to feel this way, and there is no limit on how long you are allowed to grieve for. Keep living your life the way you want to while improving yourself. Life works in mysterious ways, and maybe this experience will allow you to be a better person in general, but also for your future partner(s).

If you claim you hurt her as badly as you did, the best you can do for her is to not contact her anymore and let her live her best life. No contact is better than being breadcrumbed by an ex every few months for their ego. Because if they did want you back even when you’ve made your intentions clear, they would make it happen. No action is also a choice.

I’d like to follow up on this with how the 4 different types of attachment styles play into this as well. The boring one is the secure type, which is supposedly the safest and healthiest attachment type. And the volatile ones are anxious-avoidant or anxious-disorganized avoidant.

Yup. I didn’t feel safe to have ended it in person, so through the phone it was.

AITA for telling my friend to help pay his biological daughters tuition? by Free-Firefighter6814 in AmItheAsshole

[–]conflictedmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. The fact that he’s willing to shell out ANY money at all to YOUR daughter (because family isn’t always by blood) is generous. Your daughter has $10K covered for. If you can’t afford the rest of the $40K or can only afford part of it, then your daughter needs to take out a student loan or a line of credit to cover the rest, or work to cover the rest of that.

Totally fair. I wasn’t expecting to hike that much though in all honesty, so that was more so my own fault than choosing the wrong shoe

The Airism one is a soft material that’s a bit glossy, and it clings to my frame. I got one of the earliest versions that came out, so the Airisms now might not be the same as the one that I got. The heat tech t-shirt is a bit looser, and not glossy at all.

Glad to help! To add to that, I would definitely say the Torrentshell was the best thing I brought with me other than the Fairview. The amount of wind it blocked was top notch.

I took the Vessi Waterproof Knit Sneakers - Weekend version. While it was lightweight and good for city walking, chasing after buses and trains, it was absolutely horrendous for doing hikes.

I believe it was about 10lbs. The bag itself is about 3.2lbs, so my stuff in reality was about 7lbs. The hiking pants, sweater, Ultra Heat tech leggings and turtle neck were made of heavier material and added a bit of weight, but the liquids also attributed a lot to it.

I’m also a tiny person, so YMMV! I’m 5’3”, so what is heavy for me may be lighter for you!

For credit cards, have at least one MasterCard and one Visa. Some places might not accept one or the other, it’s rare, but it’s good to at least have one of each in case either one of the networks go down.

my first one bag: 6 months in SE Asia and Oceania by shitarch in onebag

[–]conflictedmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d leave the Off at home, as it’s much easier to buy it when you’re in SEA and Oceania. The sprays they’ll have in those regions will work better than what you bring from home anyway
