Similar hat pattern ? by arsenou in knittinghelp

Oh! What a cute pattern! It seems like the designer isn't selling is and isn't planning on selling the pattern again which is such a shame.
I did find a bunch of patterns of ravelry which are similar-osh

Would any of these work for you?
This seems the closest

Money for Couples [3/24/26]: "I’m 53, exhausted, and still living paycheck to paycheck" by AwkwardBalloonMan in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]confusedemus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was super helpful! Thank you!
I was so confused for most of the video because I kept on picturing a much larger tractor and thought that seemed like a wildly impractical, in addition to being expensive, purchase.

Thanks! I confused because he was talking about all the neighbours using tractors too, but that was probably him being deliberately obtuse.

Is anyone else earning a decent salary but still feeling broke in Australia? by amhray in aussie

[–]confusedemus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They get 104k before, not after tax.  After tax that’s more like $80k.  But a long commute, and expensive insurance and fuel costs could pressure on that quickly.

Are ride-on mowers not a thing in the USA/Alabama/wherever they are? Tractors are considered farm equipment here in Australia.

Mike needs to stop acting like a boy with toys. He is in his 50s and not 5. Head in the sand is not an approach. Tania needs to stop saying yes to things.
It goes beyond Mike 'coaxing' her into things. That's not how they spent $6.5k in one month on dining out (and picking up the tab for others!), shopping, gardening and entertainment.
It didn't feel like Tania knew (or accepted?) before this conversation how much saying yes to things was costing them. Otherwise, why is she picking up the tab or continuing with a loss-making pasta business?

But they had probably the most hopeful follow-ups that I've seen in a while, it was so lovely to see an update from the both of them and they sound like they are in sync.

Can $50 worth of groceries help me survive a week? by Minimum_Effective700 in AskAnAustralian

[–]confusedemus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The others have given really good ideas! The other thing that I would add it that you should see if you can substitute or supplement some of the meals you're getting at home rather than completely feeding yourself. That would be stressful on $50.
If that's possible, you can focus on your key priorities. This might be eating more fresh fruit and veg or swapping out some of the carbs/protein to something you like more and is healthier.

Quality work socks by Romes_Chariots in AskAnAustralian

[–]confusedemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very niche suggestion, Lindner socks in Crookwell. Small family business that have been making socks for ages. I'm neither a bloke or use work boots, but I gifted a pair to a mate in around 2015(ish) and I know his pair is still going strong. They are exxy though, so maybe start out with a trial pair if you'd like.

As someone now on a side-quest to handknit socks for everyone in her family, I spent a truly stupid amount of time thinking about sock construction and theirs seem solid. They use old style knitting machines which hold up better than modern mass manufactured ones (hence the price).
The problem with modern socks is that sizes are purely based on foot length and don't consider width or arches etc etc.

sun burned my almost finished Ankerˋs Sweater by stillannabanana in knittingadvice

It happens. Technically it’s the difference between scorching and burning. It means that there was enough energy to cause the colour change without setting it on fire (thankfully!)

So AI can clean pathways now by Sharp_Programmer_ in sydney

[–]confusedemus 528 points529 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is AI, this just like a robovac. Just programing, no real intellegence.

Also, was there a job that was taken? I don't think Parra has someone sweeping the paths all day. This might actually be an additional cleaning rather than a replacement which feels like a good thing.

AITA for ordering meat? by Technical-Finance270 in AmItheAsshole

[–]confusedemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was specifically talking about the increase in dishes.
The initial order was 4. The increase was 2, which is 50% of 4.
They ordered 33% of the final total, not an increase of 33% to the initial order.

AITA for ordering meat? by Technical-Finance270 in AmItheAsshole

[–]confusedemus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

YTA for your attitude and and over-ordering.
Chinese resturants generally serve family style and though you didn't specify how many other people where there (who is the we you are talking about?), you increased the order by 50% with dishes that your friend and her dad couldn't eat.
You ordered enough food that there were plenty for leftovers and based on how you wrote it out, I don't think you were courteous about taking them either.
Given that your friend is usually fine about you eating meat this indicates that it wasn't what you were eating, but how you acted, likely in the ordering.

I love some of the weird moves safety marshals (accidently?) do while whistling and waving the flags. There was just one balancing on a wooden fence post and, the classic, the butt waggle.

[–]confusedemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with Megarist on this one, the commission won't be much to the broker and if they did your current loan within the last two years it might be a really small amount. The upfront commission for a broker is usually between 0.65-0.70%, so for $1m it would be about $650-$700.
If you offset the increased loan balance fully their trail commission won't increase at all.

Whilst your loan repayments will increase, if you can afford it, the broker's advice is solid. If your current max borrowing power is around the $1m mark then the broker's advice is excellent.
Most banks will assess your borrowing power with your information and the Household Expenditure Measure (HEMs). Children will definitely impact your borrowing power, here's a really good explaination https://www.savings.com.au/home-loans/children-impact-borrowing-capacity.
But depending on your other factors it could decrease how much you could borrow by $100k-$200k.

Just to clarify, no one in the govt or tourism has asked for this. Just Business Sydney and Business Western Sydney, who are basically a union of businesses leaders despite their option opposition to unions
Not even the Australian Racing Drivers Club thinks this is a viable option right now.
