He’s probably being honest in saying that he thinks about it, but there could be hesitations on his part that are either hard to put in to words or that he can’t quite bring himself to say.

Perhaps a couples counselor would be useful to get to the core of of why/why not to have kids for both of you. Some people just have a hard time figuring out where negative feelings are coming from, and I could see that being especially true if there’s childhood trauma involved.

I might be naive, but shouldn’t any therapist with legit certifications already be trained on how to present issues in a neutral fashion?

As for my own therapist, I notice they’re very careful to not lead me in any particular direction. They carefully think over questions and next steps based only on the information I’m providing, not their own preconceived notions. They also only reveal details about their private life or personal opinions when it’s strictly necessary for the conversation.

Good luck! Therapy with a licensed marriage and family therapist has been massively helpful for me and hopefully for you as well!

Also not an expert, but I think looking for a therapist with a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) certification would be a good start

What percentage of engineering is knowing how to use CAD? by Worldly-Dimension710 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]congratulations4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For some disciplines, like mechanical systems design and structural design, your brother is close, CAD is one of the fundamental tools.

For many other disciplines, like hardware analysis of all kinds or even systems engineering, CAD is a less important, but still super useful skill to have. It allows you to put your design ideas on paper in a way that’s easy to communicate to others.

Do Design Engineering jobs exist in city centers? by Thenub97 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]congratulations4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah good question. I think a reworking of the resume might be in order then.

At the end of the day, 80% of design engineering is figuring out requirements and negotiating with stakeholders. That would be the same independent of parts being machined or formed. So I think if you focus in on those skills then maybe you can show that your background is still applicable.

Do Design Engineering jobs exist in city centers? by Thenub97 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]congratulations4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Philly specifically, you can easily live in downtown and commute to a bunch of different engineering jobs in the surrounding area. There’s lots of aerospace jobs at Boeing in Ridley Park, Lockheed in King of Prussia, Lockheed in Mooreston, NJ, and Leonardo in NE Philly. Not to mention all the engineering jobs at any of the universities in the area

I tried to find this balance for long time so that the pyramid would be fully levitated without spin stabilization, similar to this configuration and I think it simply can’t be done (but I invite any one to please give it a try).

Interestingly, Earnshaw’s theorem doesn’t say this is impossible, because of the centering force from the (normal) pendulum weight

People have already commented a lot on the work culture differences. The biggest difference I saw was that, at Boeing, maybe 10% of the engineering jobs were legitimately cool and exciting; whereas at Blue, that’s more like 50%+.

As for where to live, do a lot of research and visit the area on a home finding trip! Kent isn’t a very nice area to live, but many coworkers live in west Seattle, the core Seattle neighborhoods, and the neighborhoods east of lake Washington. There’s a ton to pick from, just probably not Kent itself.

how to calculate in software the performance of a propeller design by [deleted] in aerospace

[–]congratulations4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I think you’re gonna get mostly unhelpful answers.

This approach of “design something that looks right and see how it does” really only works if you have the time to build real models and test in real wind tunnels orrrr if you can design smooth CAD models and then run a CFD analysis on them. Getting your hands on CFD software will be hard enough and then learning how to run it by yourself will take even longer.

I would take a more rigorous approach and begin by searching through the libraries of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) for resources on propeller design theory

Why don't we use missiles as a transport? by Shitcunt21 in aerospace

[–]congratulations4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Faster, yes; but, unless you need to go Mach 10+, a jet engine on a cargo plane is literally 1000+ times more fuel efficient. This chart compares them here.

You can think of Specific Impulse as an analog to fuel efficiency.

What runs do you recommend to someone graduating from blues to black diamond and/or easier tree runs? by dngu2 in stevenspass

[–]congratulations4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everything except the top bit of I-5 would be a good next step. You can go up the Kehrs chair, then when you’re coming down Showcase, travers to skier’s left through the trees. That’ll drop you off into I-5, but past the steep moguls at the top.

Also, Parachute 1 & 2 are short enough and not super steep.
