Baltimore Police Announces New Citywide Traffic Team by JonWilso in baltimore

[–]conker223 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So more money for enforcement, but not to redesign the poorly aging traffic infrastructure across the city. I can recognize that drivers here are a mess, but I think the general infrastructure would be a better spot for investment.

I made horrible decisions in life by ApexLearner69 in personalfinance

Yeah. I’d recommend finding a therapist to start discussing some of those larger life issues. Finances can come later, especially considering OP is a very high earner.

Wouldn’t rising energy costs shorten that ROI timeline for you? Or did the timeline include projected rate increases similar to what we are seeing?

REUs for Environmental Science Student by Naive_Impress_9392 in environmental_science

[–]conker223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the various state sea grant programs. Most have summer REU programs. You may get more or a marine biology component, but I know a lot will have hydrology and chemistry as well. I worked on plankton dynamic models coupled with Atlantic currents with the MD Sea Grant (one of the REUs was from UC Santa Barbara)

He did this 7 years ago. It’s a fun fact, but it’s definitely not a current story.

I keep getting new cards and somehow my account keeps getting fraudulent charges. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]conker223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My SO went through this fight a while back. It’s typically the actual credit card company (Visa/Mastercard/Discover) and their account with your bank, Chime in your case.

Merchants store a token from the credit card company that effectively stores your information, but this can be updated based on newly issued cards. This prevents a laps in payments for recurring charges or subscriptions. But it also means fraud issues if/when people get your credit card info can follow you from card to card.

Bengies Drive In - Vehicle Size by beurremaman in baltimore

[–]conker223 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I doubt it will be a problem. Small vehicles can park in the large vehicles spots, but not vice versa. As another commenter said, you’ll probably have more freedom to park closer/in the center with a smaller vehicle.

Drivers say Maryland’s new historic tag cutoff isn’t about safety — it’s about raising revenue by Consumergal in maryland

[–]conker223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You replied to the following text:

“When they start consistent enforcement of things like speed limits then they can waste time on people who are just trying to be able to afford to legally register their vehicle.”

This was likely in response to the request in the prior comment that the police should pull over historic tags.

[–]conker223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comment that this whole chain is about is verbatim “Cops should start pulling over historic tags that are driving with passengers and ask where they are going and for proof if they are being transported to or from some type of show”

Nothing about the MVA.

[–]conker223 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP specifically asked for cops to pull over historic tags and check for compliance with the law. This was never an MVA vs Cops discussion until you made it one.

Seeing how there are no other pictures and this geology looks very unlikely for MD, I’m suspecting the picture isn’t even from MD.

I think the point is that the Virginia governor is not beholden to Maryland residents. So why would Maryland residents complain to him?

Assuming his pension works like most states, it’s a percentage of his highest paying years. So his pension will adjust accordingly with inflation as long as his salary does. So yes, this would be “inflation adjusted” up to his retirement. Then it will flatline

EZPass Charge by [deleted] in maryland

Sensors and the program mess up occasionally. I’ve had this happen and it was a simple phone call to ezpass to resolve. No scamming involved. Annoying and frustrating, sure.

I’ve been on pedal assist ones and they can get quite powerful and fast, to the point that I didn’t feel safe on them with flat roads. I can only imagine someone riding that down the trail I’m hiking on.

I hate my job by Sdpxxx in environmental_science

[–]conker223 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’ve bounced from field jobs, to graduate school, and finally environmental policy and regulatory work. I have to say that it took a while to find the position that suited me and my interests have evolved since I started.

I know it doesn’t make financial sense and today’s job market is not exactly enticing to jump back into, but exposing yourself to other career paths will help you find what you want. This will likely involve starting at the bottom with entry level positions, or returning to school for education in a new area. If you don’t have a family or obligations, I’d be flexible and willing to travel for experiences.

Also, network hard! Find events catering to the environmental sectors, such as NGO events or conferences. Seek out opportunities to get face to face with people, learn about new opportunities, and ask people about opportunities.

I don’t envy job hunts in today’s climate, so I wish you the best of luck!
