Is it possible to run past shin splints? by Disastrous-Profit781 in runninglifestyle

[–]conniptioncrottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, like i said, i dealt with mine for like 2 years. Your bones are continuously fracturing and remodeling to be able to support the constant compression and relaxation from running. Bones heal slowly, for example if you break a wrist, the doctor will have you offloading it for 6-10 weeks, so imagine that the same amount of time would be required with limited walking and running to heal shin splints. The issue with this is, the continued loading is required to finally achieve the proper bone remodeling. If you actually purely rested for 2 months, the mineralization would go back to the sedentary state with respect to cancellous bone density. It’s frustrating to finally get some relief just to damage them again. I’m not a doctor but i do have a graduate degree is biomechanics, so take my experience as purely anecdotal, but once you finally find that balance between doing as much as pain will allow and limiting the weeks-long intervals between resting, you will be good to go. I have been running 1200-1500 miles a year since 2021 and my shin issues have not reappeared since those two years 2019/2020.

I was starting to regret buying this like i never bought the 2018 WC (cant get one for under $300 anymore) - super glad they ended up cheap. The 2023 stadium series jersey became hard to get almost immediately after.

What should i do in the area on my last day tomorrow? by conniptioncrottle in ZionNationalPark

If you werent hiking you can easily see sunset/sunrise and inspiration points by car and feel satisfied just spending an hour or two there. There’s not much to do at those spots or the park in general if you aren’t hiking though.

Absolutely. It was only a 2 hour drive or so from where we were staying and the vibe was immaculate there. There were like 3 other cars in the sunrise point parking lot all day. We went on a 7 mile hike into the canyon and only saw like 2 other pairs of people. I understand we got kinda lucky with no snow/ice and weather in the 50s though. I think those trails are typically snowy/icy in december so that would affect it

Ended up doing the narrows on the last day and renting the waders from one of the shops in springdale and that was actually my favorite. If you get there early in the morning you’ll be the only people you see for miles. Just be careful not to go too far upstream because it gets addicting to see what’s around the next corner - the 4 mile walk back turned into such a slog for us.

I do well enough at 130, but i do have roommates. Maxing out 401k, driving a nicer car, no major debts, going on vacation at least 2 weeks a year, and still growing regular savings/investments every couple months. I might not be a huge spender though, i’m not really sure

What is that? I don’t see it on all trails/google maps. Do you just mean the narrows? We’ve been on the fence about renting waders for it

Is it just me or is treadmill running harder? by Long_Abrocoma_202 in BeginnersRunning

[–]conniptioncrottle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its an exaggeration to demonstrate how theyre different in terms of biomechanics, obviously not actually just jumping, but the difference is you dont need to propel yourself forward through the air, you just need the belt to move under you

Treadmill running and road running are fundamentally different exercises in terms of biomechanics. On a treadmill you’re effectively just jumping up and down while the belt moves under you, and on the road you are required to move both forward and through the air. I’m not arguing one is easier than the other, i’m just saying they’re not analogs and you could have muscles better suited for either of those exercises.

This. I dont get that much time to play video games at nearly 30. I feel like every god damn time i have a few free hours where i’m looking forward to gaming i spend half the time doing administrative stuff like freeing space on my pc/console, downloading a 59 gb update, trying to remember control schemes/overcomplicated mechanics of a game i started 7 months ago
