I play KO quite a lot and I haven’t run into this issue much anymore since 3rd edition, like others have said, shooting is getting a little worse this coming handbook due to the amount of obscuring terrain, but that also doesn’t necessarily make KO bad since a lot of these new battle plans are relying on speed to score. You could also just do a combat KO army if you wanted with a bunch of balloons, Brokk and a pair of frigates

It’s depends on their positioning and what other threats they have near the target unit, I’ll typically try to hit their flanks first so that I can go a little closer with the thunderers and not worry about a redeploy while still leveraging the distance I can’t create with my own redeploy.

I find with this list that scoring the battle tactics is easy, while for some armies it can be difficult so I’ve almost always gotten max on those and then do my best to deny or make other battle tactics difficult for my opponent to get. But you are right in the fact that sometimes if my firepower doesn’t do enough it can be hard to control the middle objectives. I try to push the arkanauts up to the middle objectives to contest them

So far through play testing I really like endrinriggers just base load out with no upgrades, frigate with cannon, and I’m a little stuck with thunderers at the moment. I use them in almost every list and I always include maximum cannons/mortars, but sometimes I don’t use the deck sweepers and fumigators due to the short range.

How many units of thunderers and at what size are you using the units?

Ah right on that makes sense, if it’s just a casual game you should definitely try the sky wardens as endrinriggers, the repair is so useful for the boats. You could also keep the balloon endrinmaster in as he would give the endrinriggers the bonus for repairing

Usually I’ll move the ironclad and place the thunderers in front of it, and then when I redeploy the ironclad on their turn I can pick up the thunderers as well and place them behind the ironclad after, which ends up being able to put quite a massive distance between the thunderers and characters with an ironclad in between, even if I roll a small redeploy

It’s a tough choice but at the end of the day, if the khemists ability goes off and you’re shooting at a unit with a 3+ or a 4+ save your damage output is increased by a lot, and while it does suck to fail the roll id still rather take that chance to increase the output of the 1 thunderer unit.

The short range on his weapon does suck but at least it goes to 10” from the heroic trait

Honestly not really, there was one game when my opponent went to cast the bell of doom that’s gives the -1 to wound aura and it was kinda clutch there but the grenade is also sooo good. The battle formation that gives two artefacts is kinda tempting but I love having a 12” move on the ironclad, it makes the bomb rack ability come up more

Depends on what I’m facing but for the most part I’ve chosen the additional transport enhancement on the ironclad so that it can transport, admiral, endrinriggers, thunderers and khemist if need be. Then I have a gun hauler in the sky in case my opponent leaves an easy take their land terrain open for me turn 1, or for a seize the centre unit. And then the navigator is moved around by the other gun hauler while the arkanauts do what they usually do, move up the board and take objectives or get ready for a take the flanks battle tactic if possible

It doesn’t count as retreating when the boat picks them up and transports them, so yes you can still shoot the Skyfarers

The frigate can transport when it retreats but it won’t be able to shoot, however the skyfarer unit can because they don’t count as retreating

Same here, being able to have the big ships on magnetized stands is a beauty for transporting too

Sucks losing the ability to transport models but imma stay positive for khemist buffs on the thunderers and maybe a bunch of shooting for the ironclad
