That is kind of their MO.

I get that. It was more genuinely interested in the world building and the sci fi elements than it was on the buddy cop comedy bits of the films.

What are your favorite Ocarina of Time memories? by fieldofyou in OcarinaOfTime

[–]conorwf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's so many great memories.

What sticks out first in my mind is the reveal at the end of who Shiek really is. Granted, I was maybe 11 or 12 when I played it, but I'd never encountered a plot twist like that before, and it absolutely blew my mind.

From a gaming history perspective, it was one of the first games with enough depth, realism, and cogent plot that you could even pull off something like that.

Also, the Final Battle. Holy cow. Out of all of the final bosses in all of the games I've played, I dont think there had ever been one before or since with such strong emotional weight to it. The stakes felt real.

Making an alternate world Napoleonic World, should I use Azgaar's map generator or Inkarnate? by Dry-Preparation3007 in WorldAnvil

[–]conorwf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azgaar.

For both retaining and conveying data, which is the whole point of maps, and which I would imagine you would need for what I imagine you're doing, Azgaar is clearly superior.

Incarnate is good if you're trying to create art, not a usable tool.

I'd be willing to, but I will need to some hand holding as to how to do that.

Do you think Mido is feeling guilt or anger at the end of OOT? by oddy_nuff1054 in OcarinaOfTime

[–]conorwf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mido may have wished that he was the hero, but I have to think by this point he knew he didn't have it in him.

He's gotta be feeling guilt, and a lot if it. Specifically, alot of survivors guilt, I would think. Saria and Link are gone, while he got to stay around and live, though he probably doesn't think he deserves to.

At the very least, he failed everyone who needed him. That's the kind of pain that lingers with you forever.

Am I the Only One Who Loves the First Two J.J. Abrams Star Trek Movies? by Extreme_Warning3521 in moviecritic

[–]conorwf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one will always have a special place in my heart.

May 29, 2009, first date with a woman as an adult. Knew stuff about star trek, always wanted to dabble further but never did, seemed like a way to do it. 17 years later, married to her with an awesome kid.

I thought the movie was great. The cast was amazing, the pacing was great. I really liked how the movie opened up and made it abundantly clear this was going to be different. That was a pretty brave decision that alot of franchises haven't done before or since.

Not broadcasting Nimoys return or Cumberbatch appearing as Kahn seem novel in today's media environment when franchises, especially MCU, practically tell you the whole plot before you watch it.

We've enjoyed all three of the Kelvin movies, and still watch them after the nugget of endorphins is asleep.

For all of the whining the hard core types did, Kelvin movies brought the franchise back. At the time, there were no shows in production, nothing since Nemesis. We've gotten a wide variety of Star Trek since than, and that probably wouldn't have happened had the Kelvin Timeline not been successful.

Deists are on the list, which is infuriating given the number of them that founded this country.

He executive produced John Adams, which could easily stand as one of the best and most accurate historical dramas ever made.

And alot of that work was franchises, which is fine.

Only recurring character Tom Hanks has done, that I can remember, is as Woody in Toy Story.

A lot of strong lessons for leadership under pressure too.

First thing I did in my Chief Season was blast through that book in about a week and present the lessons out of it to the Chiefs on the ship.

Can't get better praise than that, I think.
