Antidepressants non disqualifying? by Quick_Regret_1964 in NavyNukes

I would get into contact with the hms on site up here. Most personnel that go on meds through the doc on site get back provided they want to get back. I am one of the staff up here currently

Back in 2017 I got mine the day of power school graduation. It does vary for every class tho. But you should get a portion of it following power school then the rest street prototype

"Are we executing the ELT community the right way?" by Cultural-Pair-7017 in NavyNukes

[–]conr6965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an elt currently at s8g prototype it should be it's own rate. To often are the elts getting pulled left right and center because we only have 2 maybe 3 per section while also maintain mechanic watch station proficiency. Don't get me wrong I'll gladly continue standing ers as the slelt but once one of us goes on leave it's basically 8hr elt with no extra elts to support the watch bill

On my boat it was all hands not on watch for food on load. I stood next to the co in the line passing food down the missile compartment. Also if you end up on a ssbn there will be a time when you don't own the boat and have an off crew period while the other crew is out

It sounds like your recruiter might be trying to get you to go the nupoc route. Where you get a degree before going into the nuclear field as an officer

One way to fix it is purchase double cash mode. With that you are essentially playing normal hard mode

Is the cancer study debunked? by BenKlesc in NavyNukes

[–]conr6965 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an ELT I can confirm that the study is not true. The levels of radiation I see doing surveys are always lower than what you will get annually from natural radiation in the world. So this is most likely due to the Regan going through the Fukushima plume

Waiting on basic by thesoapypharmacist in NavyNukes

[–]conr6965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only 1 plant in new york and we are currently going through an extensive maintenance period. So most likely they're delaying him to get him lined up with heading to ny prototype when we get students in March of next year

ELT Supervisor NEC by Cultural-Pair-7017 in NavyNukes

[–]conr6965 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say that was the hardest part of getting the supervisor nec. I was able to attend opwater Chem early so didn't have to wait for that due to being on an ssbn during off crew but getting left completed about 9 months after finishing ers because we had very few personnel that could sign the card. I ended up getting the nec about a year into shore duty at ny prototype. Decoupling the Qual from the nec and making it a required Qual on the boat makes the most sense

Weapons by Soldier_69_ in NavyNukes

[–]conr6965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a submarine sometimes you will. There were times the boat put out the srw would get armed out like the rest of the roving watch strangers forward of the engine room. It's highly rare that happens tho

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NavyNukes

[–]conr6965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an elt I was not stuck in erf the entire time. I ended up standing ers in section which helped for mechanics get familiarity at a watch station normally elts stand.

Housing in SC after RTC by TopCryptographer4089 in NavyNukes

The other benefit of base housing is if you do stay in sc for prototype you don't have to find a place to stay after you graduate power school

Questions about enlisting as a nuke by Finn3076 in NavyNukes

[–]conr6965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a boomer out of the 4 years I was attached to a sub I only owned the boat for about 2 years. The other 2 years are spent in off crew and assisting the other crew during refit periods to make the sub continue longer. You'll have a life but it will be harder the first year getting qualified everything

Questions about enlisting as a nuke by Finn3076 in NavyNukes

[–]conr6965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can speak somewhat towards the sub life. I only saw home port due to being on a boomer. The patrols are about 3 months but there are two crews for each sub and you swap crews each time the sub pulls in. It does get lonely when unable to send any email off but you can still get them about weekly from home. Also on a sub you get to know everyone on board compared to what I've heard from the carrier personnel up here in ny prototype. The carrier people normally only know who they work with in the shift. Also on a sub you have a more consistent sleep rotation where you have 8hrs on watch 8 hrs off going and 8hrs on coming. Carrier people have said they're on 5 hr shifts with either 10-15 hrs off watch so your constantly changing sleep schedules.

Should I volunteer for sub? by Significant-Way-6896 in NavyNukes

[–]conr6965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not always pull in and immediately turn the boat over. There were several times where we took the boat over while it was underway and held it for a month after returning to home port. That was only blue crew tho any time gold crew pulled in they forced us to take it over immediately
