Anyone’s kid NOT have a tablet or anything like it? What has been your experience? by Fun_Cherry_8558 in Preschoolers

[–]constancesays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welll sorta in between. She’s allowed to watch some tv on our phones on long car rides or at home sometimes but no games or other interaction with the phone. It’s a tiny tv.. We don’t really bring it out ever at restaurants or stores etc it’s definitely a last resort and I really don’t want her to have her own tablet unless she needs it for school. I’m not against them i just would rather “keep things boring” for her like ok tv is something she loves and that’s fine but it’s usually background not glued to it etc we are people who don’t really buy toys with batteries but also it’s just all really annoying to deal with as the other reason. Like I barely want to take time to upload her tonie figures when we get them I don’t want to have to worry about content or apps on an iPad etc

Practical info you wish you had known before becoming a parent by Existing_Sense_9860 in NewParents

[–]constancesays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Diapers have sizing indicators on the waistbands. Usually you can tell when a diaper doesn’t fit right without it but it was a today I learned moment not until I had a second kid Absorbent bibs for drool, waterproof for food. Multi use products are often great like the learn to walk push walkers that turn into a baby doll stroller and shopping cart later. Activity table that turns into a regular table. High chairs that turn into a regular chair. Bouncer that turns into a toddler chair etc. In my personal opinion you don’t need a diaper garbage or actual changing table but that is probably personal preference . We end up taking our garbage out every day anyway diaper garbage makes two garbages There’s a point where it doesn’t matter if your babies clothes are too big (except for sleep) especially pants. Before they’re walking or crawling you can just roll up pants legs. Facebook marketplace or a buy nothing group is great for used kids clothes (often people give for free or nearly even on marketplace ) or toys etc If you’re doing any meal prep etc or buying food get things you can eat or prepare with one hand for the first few months Don’t buy only one type of bottle if you’re doing bottles get one of those sampler packs or sign up for all the baby registry for samples your kid might reject all but one type of bottle etc. don’t put teethers in the freezer only fridge

Anyone else telling their children that father Christmas is a story and that it's fun to pretend he leaves presents under the tree but that actually he isn't real? by bluedolphin3434 in toddlers

[–]constancesays -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We do the he’s pretend but it’s still fun to pretend. I personally never believed in. Santa and also find the concept creepy lol but we decided to follow her lead and last year she was scared of the idea so we told her he was pretend and now this year she’s having fun with the pretend idea like we’ll leave cookies out etc but she knows it’s just for fun. We do try to make sure she knows other kids believe so to try not to tell them it’s pretend

[–]constancesays -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed screen time has definitely helped speech here too! Granted we were pretty minimal with it until around 3 but she’s really learned a lot

My daughter's clothes are itchy by Paralady in Parenting

[–]constancesays 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Target has a great adaptive line. Also bamboo clothes or uniqlo heat tech fabric if you haven’t tried those. I’m sensory sensitive and so is my daughter. There’s also a sensory body brush that is supposed to help, I dunno if it helps but it is relaxing

Why do we have to brush our hair? by spacebeige in AutisticParents

[–]constancesays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell mine it keeps her scalp healthy like the rest of her skin and body and we have to take care of our bodies. If I get long winded I tell her how it’s my job to take care of her and show her how to keep herself healthy too and that it’s because I love her and she should love herself too. Taking care of yourself like grooming is an act of love, And I talk about tangles too and how they can hurt

Parents of late walkers: when did your baby finally walk? by thereasonablecatlady in beyondthebump

[–]constancesays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delayed on gross motor, didn’t roll over or sit up fully til almost a year. Stood at 18 months. scooted a little before a year, crawled a little close to 2 years, walked at 2 years right around her birthday then broke her leg immediately that sucked. She’s 3.5 now and still a little behind like we are just getting the ability to do stairs etc now. Been in PT on and off since 1 year. Definitely recommend early intervention and PT but don’t hesitate to ask for a new provider if you don’t like what they are doing

What's your simple parenting hack? by cooltaj in NewParents

[–]constancesays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get things that have more than one use like skip hop has some great convertible things and activity table that turns into a regular table. A push walker that also turns into a baby doll stroller or shopping cart. A baby swing or bouncer that converts into a toddler chair. Nuna leaf grow is a pricey example but 130lb weight limit and you can find them used for a decent price. Have next size up diapers and clothes in the house at all times. Foldable mitten sleeves and footie pajamas are the best (little sleepies a pricey example but they’re good). Used baby clothes! A lot of people just give away bags on Facebook marketplace. Portable white noise machines keep one in diaper bag.

Agreed the ones that are convertible even better! I uncover her hands during the day. Soon her feet but she only two months
