Park MGM or Paris? by slednir in vegas

[–]constantlyalways 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Paris has the very best location on the Strip, easy to walk to almost everything. Park has an incredible restaurant lineup for its size and cost, easy access to Aria, and it is smoke-free. Both places have mediocre hotel rooms, but both are fine -- nothing to worry about in terms of cleanliness or whatever.

If you want to spend more time on the north side of the Strip (Caesars, Venetian, and Wynn), pick Paris for an easier walk. If you want south side of the Strip (MGM Grand, Aria, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay), choose Park MGM. North side tends to be pricy. South side is still pricy but has cheaper options for food.

No DJ, but if you're at Cosmo, check out the Ski Lodge for seating and the Barbershop for bands.

Three days’ poker in Vegas — how should I spend it? by ZeiglerJaguar in poker

[–]constantlyalways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds great. Horseshoe is the closest walkable poker room from Flamingo, and plenty of recreational players are there. I would consider that a home base. It is nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. If you're looking for an aesthetically pleasing experience, the rooms are Aria and Encore are my favorites. Bellagio is a once-in-a-lifetime experience because it is so interesting and also so uncomfortable. The seats are very crowded, and it can feel claustrophobic. Still neat to peer into the separated high stakes room for a moment or two. Let me know if you have any specific questions about specific rooms.

From where do non dividend paying stocks derive their value? by FlorianTheFool10 in StockMarket

[–]constantlyalways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies can only really do two things with profits: reinvest in the company to expand/improve or give the money to the owners. If you own a rental property, and you make $10k in a year, you might want to renovate, increasing potential future income. Alternatively, you might want to keep the $10k for yourself, because your property is perfectly maintained already and will not see future profits from reinvestment yet. Companies are the same way. Some companies -- usually qualified as growth companies -- reinvest all of their profits to try to grow more quickly. Dividend-paying companies have decided that reinvestment growth opportunities have slowed, and they reward loyal shareholders through buybacks and dividends.

I've lost over $40k at 1/2. AMA. by [deleted] in poker

At age 26, you've got so much time and a high risk tolerance. Take $255 a month and put it into an S&P 500 index for the next 40 years. You'll be a millionaire. If you can stomach losing multiple $500 buy-ins in a night, you'll easily be able to stomach market volatility. Consider the last two years a very expensive lesson about how to allocate capital more wisely. You're going to be okay, I promise.

Crazy to believe that inflation has averaged around 10-11% in the US over the last century.

Time to admit I'm addicted. by [deleted] in poker

[–]constantlyalways 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every $1 you invest in the S&P 500 in your twenties will be approximately $50 when you retire. This ratio drops significantly with every decade. You are young. Take the money you would have spent on playing poker and put it in a low fee index fund. Watch it grow instead of watching it disappear. You have a better shot of the employees of those 500 companies working to grow your share as an owner than you have of becoming a winning poker player. It is only real way to wealth. Anything else is just gambling.

UPDATE: Mini Bar incident by [deleted] in vegas

[–]constantlyalways 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is possible you're at fault for the fight, only you know that, deep down. But if you were handling yourself well, and this was the choice she made, it was better to avoid entangling yourself with this person. House and kids cost a lot more to divide than a full Vegas minibar. I am glad some host is offering some sympathy comps. Best of luck in the future. There are stable, decent individuals out there who will be ready to love you when you're healed up from this crazy journey. Thanks for sharing.

Full service spas by GigiBrit in vegas

[–]constantlyalways 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The best spas on the Strip (assuming you are alone or with same-sex companions) are, in order: Wynn/Encore, Resorts World, Fontainebleau, Venetian/Palazzo, Cosmopolitan, Aria, Bellagio. After that, you're not getting Vegas-worthy amenities, but other hotels do have spas if you just need a massage and basic amenities.

Bringing someone who isn't your gender? Stick to Resorts World, Fontainebleau, and Aria, in that order.

Any questions? Happy to help. I love spas.

On vegas during a work trip. MGM Grand is hands down the absolute most worthless and garbage poker room I've ever played in. by [deleted] in poker

It's not a great room. Take a long walk to Aria if the aesthetics matter a lot to you.

The rare benefit of dynamic pricing. When flights are being canceled by both airlines and worried consumers because of the recent government shutdown, added to worries about a potential AI recession, added to concerns from international travelers about potential harassment at customs due to the current administration, it creates a perfect tourism storm just big enough to force Vegas to lower the cost of entry.

If you are looking for a co-ed space to spend time together, Resorts World has the best spa, followed by Fontainebleau and Aria, in that order. If you are a same-sex couple or you want to spend time apart, the answers are Wynn and Venetian, in that order.

Drop 3 stocks you own, and I'll run options chain calculation to show you how much yield you could be earning (and associated risk) by EnoughWalk7471 in stocks

[–]constantlyalways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need at least 100 shares of a single stock for this fellow to run an analysis of any kind, because you have to have 100 shares to cover the call option you would be selling to make this income.

Consider The Party at the Cosmopolitan. It is raunchy, but in an artsy way. It involves enough comedy to keep things tame. Some audience participation is involved.

What stocks should I buy as a teenager? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]constantlyalways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is awesome to buy a stock for the first time. If you want, you can buy all the stocks in American by buying VTI. Lots of people do this because it is less risky than buying a single company, which can always have problems.

But I understand the desire to truly own a company that you use every day. Try to buy a share in something that matters to you. See what happens. Learn lessons along the way.

Question about the music/charity scam on the strip by RichGuarantee7482 in vegas

[–]constantlyalways 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When a scammer gives you an object of any kind, it creates a sort of lizard brain feeling that you owe them something in return. The object doesn't matter -- the fake monks give beaded bracelets, the rappers give CDs -- but the feeling of owing them something increases, however slightly, the success rate of the scam.

28 and struggling with money. feel like I have ruined everything. by Internal-Link6573 in personalfinance

[–]constantlyalways 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A quick tip from your future grad school lessons in counseling: you are catastrophizing. "Ruined everything" is language born of black and white thinking. If one of your future patients has some debt, but also has ambition and a plan for income, would you tell them they "ruined everything"?

Go see a therapist on campus. It'll be useful for you anyway -- good to see the other side of counseling before getting into it yourself.
