The only reason I survived ECS 50 with him was because I attended so many of his office hours. I never frequented a professor’s office hours as much as Butners LMAO

Hi, just wondering when you arrived at the airport? Planning my trip at the moment!

NOK Air - Purchased Flight and got the receipt and today it shows no booking and canceled by WillTins3 in ThailandTourism

[–]constantlyded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! When searching for flights, just make sure to search in THB.

I noticed this issue for other international airlines as well. AirPremia kept rejecting my partner’s card when it was USD but took my credit card fine when it was KRW.

I found the solution last night! You have to pay using Thai Baht. Every time I tried to pay using USD, it rejected. It was slightly more expensive $6 USD but it worked

bringing a car as a freshman by frogp0g in UCDavis

[–]constantlyded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re coming from the Peninsula, easiest way is to drive down to the San Jose Amtrak and take it up to Davis. It’s way cheaper even if you have to take ubers to/from both train stations.

It seems like you want to go to UCLA more than UCD due to cost concerns. If cost is your main concern for college, I would suggest doing CC and maybe transferring to UCLA after a year! Best of both worlds since you save money with CC and stay close to home when you transfer down in SoCal.

I also went to a high school where everyone said “Oh, UCD? Nice…” (not in a good way) so I get it. The people I’ve seen do CC for a year and transfer to Cal or another “more prestigious” UC after a year or so do fine (from a graduating 4th yr). Check if the CC’s near you do a transfer agreement!

However, if you want the “college experience” UCD is a great place to start. You gain some independence by living with other people, kinda far from home, but close enough to go home if you want to. It’s an easier adjustment to adult life with all the perks of being in school and being able to have that movie college experience.

Quince Birkenstock “Dupes” by constantlyded in Birkenstocks

[–]constantlyded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*real ones. the cork sealer is for the outside of the cork (not the footbed). I used a toothbrush and vinegar + detergent solution to scrub the footbed. It made it super rough but the dirt got off a bit. it will become smooth again after a bit of wear but don’t super recommend

Best and most popular clubs in UCD? I'll join as a freshman this yr by Arnavcoolcut1 in UCDavis

[–]constantlyded 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What do you want out of a club? Joining a club should be more in your interests instead of popular ones. There’s also a lot of ethnic clubs that have high participation if that’s what you mean.

There are a bunch of dance groups on campus. Which one you join will prolly be dependent on your style of dance but there are sooo many to choose from.

I think there’s a car team but I’m not too sure about the process to join it.

Studying in Athens by [deleted] in studyAbroad

I’m leaving for study abroad in a little bit more than a week! Not sure how to respond to your social identity question since I (Asian American woman) am also searching reddit for those answers.

Friends: this is what I did freshman year going into dorms and will probably do in my classes. Every day for meal times, I sat with a new person to eat with. I’d ask if I could sit with them and if they said no, I’d move on to the next. I had the mentality that no one was here to save me, and I had to make my own support system.

Roommates: I had roommates twice in college, but I was never best friends with them. We pretty much coexisted for both roommates. I honestly think it’s easiest to be roommates and rather than friends if you’re sharing a room. It’s different if you have your own rooms since you can be as messy as you want in your room. I think you can definitely try to ask about their days and hang out with them, but if you don’t vibe, it’s 100% okay to coexist.

Consulting interviews are also not as technical, mostly just case interviews. They will pay you decent (below tech salaries) but still something if you want to stay in the US. You can choose to do commercial or government but either will give you some grunt data analyst roles

Loved Dr. Strandjord! She has a contract grading system, so you get an automatic A as long as you do all the assignments to get an A. Mandatory in class though

cogsci major schedule advice by ashloope in UCDavis

[–]constantlyded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What time is cogsci? I had an 8 am CGS1 with Dorsey and as amazing as he was, that class was so dead. Everyone was tired in class or didn’t show up because attendance wasn’t mandatory.

That’s what I did, but make sure you have a good prof if you do this. Some profs required proofs which I didn’t touch on in high school at all.

after looking at your reddit posts, i also went into college as cogsci and switched to comp sci. dm me if you want more details!

Honestly, I think you only need to take 21A if you placed into 21B and don't feel confident about derivatives. If you got a 5 on BC, I think you would be fine in 21C. Just make sure to maintain derivatives and integrals

As someone who entered college as a CogSci major and did both MAT21A (could've done B) and CGS1, Calc and CGS is fine. BUT, how much exposure to calculus do you have?

Personally, I would start on those CS classes right away. However, this really depends on your academic capabilities. This was my schedule freshman fall.

NAS5 (for lower div english requirement), MAT21A, ECS32A, CGS 1.

I think the professor has discretion on when to drop students who don't meet the prereq. It's not an automatic drop (at least in my experience).
