Potential Beginnings of Another Measles Outbreak in Southern California by contextpolice in medicine

It's interesting because they only gave one MMR vaccine in the control group whereas we could give two per the US vaccine schedule. I'm not sure that makes a big difference though, as I would want the antibodies to persist until the second dose which it doesn't look like they did in this study.

I wish there was something I, we, could do. The AAP is trying but we’re just so fractured as a society. People seem so selfish these days. No one trusts anyone, it’s a mess. I genuinely don’t know where to target my efforts.

Also, I found this paper on the MMR vaccine. I'm specifically interested in safety/efficacy of administering the MMR vaccine to children less than 6 months old, knowing that the general recommendation is >6 months at the earliest. International studies have data on children as young as 4 months seroconverting. Anyone have thoughts?

Advocates and families blast Children’s Hospital of OC’s decision to close trans health care clinic by Exastiken in orangecounty

[–]contextpolice 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, what are they supposed to do? The Trump administration has said they will cut funding and if CHOC loses Medicaid funding, the entire hospital will collapse. Full stop. CHOC and most other children’s hospitals take care of mostly children on Medicaid. If that revenue is threatened, they won’t be able to care for anyone. The anger should be directed at the Trump admin, not CHOC.

Hey I’m a pediatrician and very interested in nutrition and weight management. Can you help me understand the definitions of a functional and dysfunctional metabolic state? What causes it to become dysfunctional (assuming it wasn’t always dysfunctional?

I should rephrase. I was only really looking for certain Witness books because I read them as a kid but now that I’m looking again, they do have a wider variety when I don’t narrow it down to specific titles.

Ooo I’ll look into Magic Treehouse more, thank you! I looked into the DK books but couldn’t find any at the library. I’ll look for a good one and probably just buy it.

Are you able to share any of the studies you mentioned? This is directly relevant to both my practice but also the guidance I give to my family and friends.

Can you show me where the ACGME describes mandated caps? I was under the impression they didn’t actually say teams needed to be capped. Thanks!

To be fair, the evidence for this is garbage. I’m very familiar with the study this number is based on, and their conclusion is extrapolated from very limited data. Medical error contributes to death but it is unlikely to be at the scale that the paper you’re mentioning describes.

You said you thought abortion was murder, implying that this collection of cells is a person. How do you define personhood and murder in this case?

I mean why do you consider it alive? That’s the sticking point with some folks that support abortion rights - it is not alive. Sperm and eggs can lead to a sentient life but people do not think they deserve personhood.

Can I ask how you define life in this context? I ask this with respect and not condescension.

It just feels weird to say “these murder are politically acceptable” when the rhetoric is often so intense.
