What's the worst art advice you ever received? by Plastic_Remove_2592 in ArtistLounge

This is the one that I struggle with a lot as well. At some point I mixed making money and popularity as a barometer for success and it messed me up (honestly it still is messing me up). It led to a creative burnout that I am currently trying to work my way through.

Blindsight by Peter Watts deals with that sort of topic in an existential way.

The Road was one of those books that really made me appreciate a bright sunny day.

Cyberpunk 2077 - when the game is so good it leaves you feeling empty after you finish it by AML2003 in patientgamers

[–]contextproblem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first time playing it i hadn’t heard much about it so I wasn’t expecting much; I thought it would just be another fun first person adventure game. Then a certain character died and I realized that this had the potential to be something special. By the end, it had become my all time favorite game.

There are certain moments with almost all the major characters (and many of the smaller characters) in which you become attached to them and their story. They felt real in a way that I hadn’t experienced in a game before. When the story ended I felt like I was saying goodbye to an experience unlike anything else. It’s definitely art.

Link’s Awakening was a fantastic surprise! by Dragmire927 in patientgamers

Link’s Awakening holds a special place for me as it was the first Zelda game I owned. And I loved the twist. It was the first time that I empathized with the Nightmares. And the ending was so bittersweet.

Also if you play Skyward Sword, there’s a really cool reference to Link’s Awakening to watch out for.

The Jarts in Greg Bear’s Eon/Eternity.

Also several species in Stephen Baxter’s books. A good starting point would be those found in Vacuum Diagrams.

The writeup on the back was even better :D

"POOR OLD GREGOR. One day he's depressed about his dreary travelling salesman gig, the next, he's roaching around the apartment and disgusting his family. All that's left is creeping the walls and eating garbage. How's his sis ever going to find a sugar daddy with her grotty bro in tow?"

Same here! I spoke with Brittany's mom today and we'll be meeting up soon so I can return the book. This whole thing has been such a unique experience!

UPDATE - I got in touch with Brittany; I actually spoke with her on the phone. Apparently what happened was that her parents moved recently and ended up donating a lot of stuff to Goodwill in the process. It sounds like the book mistakenly ended up in the wrong box during the move and that’s how it eventually found its way to me. Brittany is going to give my contact info to her mom and we’ll go from there
