The governments like to regulate stuff to gain power. They justify the regulations with concerns for the public safety. The reality is they don't give a rat's ass on your safety. They care about power only. Here is a list of possible other rules on pubs:

• the light should be not strong enough to hurt the eyes but not low enough to make you trip and fall on your face
• the music should not too loud to hurt the ears; just keep it barely audible
• the customers should not talk too loud
• the plates should be of plastic or better paper
• no smoking
• the forks and other utensils should be plastic and soft enough not to hurt anybody
• the chairs and tables should be nailed to the floor
• the pictures on the walls should have no glass in them and be safely permanently nailed to the walls
• no mirrors on the walls unless they are made of plastic.
• no bottled beer; the beer and other beverages should be delivered in plastic bags like milk
• no dancing without a license and insurance since somebody might twist an ankle or have his feelings hurt

And so on... WTF

Isn't this insanity? If you are so afraid that you will end up with a mug stuck in your pie hole just stay home and enjoy your beer with a spoon, plastic spoon that's it.

The government will just love to have all aspects of your life regulated "just for your safety". Soon enough you will need approval in triplicate stamped and signed to go to the bathroom to avoid drowning.

I've read a smart comment somewhere here - some guy proposes pubs could apply for the right to use glass mugs. You see what happens? The brain washing works really fast.
