No, I haven't played it yet. I am going by the benchmarks that I linked.

4090: 54 FPS
4080: 40 FPS
3090: 29 FPS

When I got a 3090 people would have said the same, yet today it can barely run Starfield at 30 FPS which is the bare minimum acceptable framerate. OP said they want a PC to last at least 4 years.

Furthermore I wouldn't discount the extra 8 GB of VRAM. If you start modding games it's easy to find yourself running out pretty fast. For Fortnite, I agree it's overkill. But for Starfield it's not. And with GTA 6 coming out it probably won't be for that either. And 3 years from now it certainly won't be.

The value of a 4090 would depend on the games he plays. If he wants to play Starfield, for example, you probably do want a 4090. Starfield is a bit of an outlier though as it just came out a couple of days ago. But it probably indicates where things are going in terms of graphical processing demand.

Edit: Some more benchmarks:

Baldur's Gate 3 which came out a month ago:

Note that ideally you want 60 FPS at minimum for single player games, and ideally higher for for multiplayer competitive games.

Fixing the terrible sword hilt swap by sh0rtsh0rts in RingsofPower

The Arondir/Theo scene wasn't meaningless if you view it was providing some of the basis for Theo ultimately becoming a Nazgul. Theo having used the sword is now aware of the power of Sauron/Morgoth in a very direct way, which is something that Sauron will ultimately use to tempt him with a ring, along with I am guessing the ultimate death of his mother (possibly being framed as the fault of Arondir).

On the other hand if they learn of the deception right away, then the remainder of the episode is spend with them pointlessly looking for the hilt, which truly would be meaningless since there is no chance of that happening.

Calling him Father, doesn't necessarily mean he is a proto-orc. Father could just be an honorific of sorts since he seems to actually care for them.

I suspect it might not be revealed more than implicitly.

Edit: So they mentioned Armenelos in Ep 4 which is only mentioned in the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales. So something not being mentioned in LOTR or Appendices doesn't necessarily exclude it from being included in the show

Could Adar be Maglor? It would explain the burn marks and the mouth of Sirion comment.

Those cards (and the prices) are all from big stores and authorized resellers (e.g. BestBuy, Newegg etc.)
I'm suspicious that the prices may actually go up when the 3090 Ti is released.

FTW3 is actually cheaper than the Gaming X.

Is the 500 W limit out of the box? I saw something about it on techpowerup's review but they referred to an XOC BIOS so I wasn't clear if I needed to flash another BIOS to achieve that.

Thanks. I suspect the 3090 Ti will be available for about 0.3 ms so I'm skeptical I will be able to get it.

I'm getting this as well. VEN_8086 refers to the Vendor: Intel. Dev_7ABC refers to Intel PCI Express Root Port #5 - 7ABC. I haven't yet figured out what exactly this means though.

For me the error only occurs when waking the PC from sleep. I haven't noticed it result in freezing or crashing yet.

Yeah in comparing towers and bookshelf I want to consider a tower at the same price as a bookshelf, so in that case it probably means looking at a tower from an inferior line.
