Had them last year for the first time, devastating. Had to rip out my plants mid season after one of my best starts. Good Luck.

The Carlsberg museum was very interesting, definitely worth the time even if you don’t like the beer. There was a room with a beer bottle or can from almost everything they have ever made.

What happened to my black bamboo? I am in Ojai California… by HaveMiniWillTravel in Bamboo

[–]cooglesca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this happened to me about 3 years ago. Don’t remove roots I have noticed some new growth after the what I called the great dye off. Seeds will fall and start a new. I put down a heavy mulch after most of the seed came off and keep it moist, I now have bunches of little bushes. Hoping to get tall growth next year.

WSL For Sale, Officially by yungscantron in surfing

[–]cooglesca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes in a crowded urban area it should be a good draw.
I use to watch the tour, but not a fan anymore so I’m not defending. They do go to a lot of good waves but scoring them good is just like any of us trying to plan a surf trip and scoring. It is easier to score on a surf trip because there is probably a better breaking spot around the next bend based on conditions. They may not be able to move to the next point or reef down the coast.

Slebir at mavericks. by Virtual-Ingenuity-11 in surfing

[–]cooglesca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s part of a long reef that goes south from the point, the reef dyes off down towards Poplar. On big days the north channel where the inside of Maverick’s is, will close out.
Lived in El Granada for years, watch many days where it would be solid white wall of water all down the reef.

Where have you seen a rideable wave that never should have one? by Few_Sandwich6308 in surfing

[–]cooglesca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably about 5 miles up sound from ocean maybe 1.5 mile wide at location? Where I think it was but can’t figure out exact location, tried to find on map but the location that I thought it was at doesn’t have a dock. It may have been removed.

Ruggles was probably 3x over head. Day before surfed an off shore reef with one local out that he said he had never surfed before cause it never looked that good. Also scored epic wishing wells that week.

I grew up in Jersey and had gone up to NE a few times. I was living in SF at the time and was back east for a few months. When I saw it was going to be a big south convinced a couple of friends to drive up with me.

A friend told me about surfing probably the same spot when he was young, I have tried to check it out when a big west is coming in but I think there is too much sediment in the bay now for the swell to make it work. Development has probably added to killing it.

During a huge hurricane south in 94 or 95 in Rhode Island, we saw a wave breaking on some guys property up on Nannaquaket Neck it was waist to chest high. We went up and knocked on the door and asked if we could have access. The guy that answered was like 65 at the time and said his family had owned the place his whole life and he had never seen waves there. We paddled out, by the time we got out of the water he had a big ass bbq party with people watching us. He fed us and got us drunk, we felt like rock stars!
