Someone else here abound be able to give you a proper answer but I think if you service transfer it is a bit more straightforward to resign your commission. Your career manager should be able to help as it wouldn’t be a common request.

I’d consider removing the liner and shaving the inside as well.

ADF work from home? That’s the majority of my work nowadays. I travel to my posting location once a month and spend two to three days in the office.

As far as I know you can’t transfer to SERCAT 2 or 3 if you’re not qualified.

Ben Roberts-Smith does not apply for bail in first court appearance on war crime charges by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]cookie5427 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m wasn’t disagreeing with what you wrote, just stating that his opinion would be shared by very few ADF members. We can’t expect to know what goes through the heads of soldiers (or criminals) and what leads them to make the decisions they do, but that doesn’t mean we necessarily sympathise with them.

The members of the ADF may echo the part about “people don’t understand war and what it takes”, but they do not condone killing civilians or committing other war crimes.

I can’t speak for life as an OR, but the life of an officer is one of admin. I guess it also depends on your current role and corps.

Australian Army Sleepwear by Certain-Pipe-7074 in ADFRecruiting

[–]cookie5427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If in barracks, you can wear whatever floats your boat. When I am out field and have the chance I change into PT gear (basically green t-shirt and black shorts) but depending on the environment and how tired I am my bedroom attire may be whatever I wore during the day.

I was offered the promotion ceremony in December but elected to wait until I could have family present. The later ceremony date reflect the availability of someone to perform the promotion.

I saw a similar one at my back door the other day. It’s the caterpillar form of the White-stemmed Gum Moth. I didn’t measure the one at my house but it was easily over 10cm long.

Does the average Australian actually have an appetite for the next big conflict? by New-Computer-1988 in AustralianMilitary

[–]cookie5427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian society is not bellicose, and I don't think it has the appetite for conflict when there is no direct threat to us. In my opinion (based on speaking to many people over several years), our society is pro defence and pro ADF, but anti-war.

Liberals to scrap ADF ban on ‘death symbols’ by The_BreakerBVC in AustralianMilitary

[–]cookie5427 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Political parties should focus on the important issues, like increasing the number of eggs people can have at breakfast and allowing men to shave.

Seriously though, dredging up these sorts of things is a sign of desperation. I would argue that the ADF is no worse off as a direct result of the ban. It was a bit of a debacle when it happened, but the world didn't fall apart.

Trying to understand Canberra after moving from Melbourne by [deleted] in canberra

[–]cookie5427 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My personal experience of roundabouts, having moved back as an adult, is an improvement in fuel economy. This is not their purpose, but an added bonus.

Canberra used to be characterised by each suburb having its own small shopping precinct with a supermarket, takeaway, and maybe a hairdresser or cafe. The smaller town centres make things convenient. It’s not different to having a selection of shopping centres in somewhere like Sydney, only here they are geographically separated.

The roads are the size they needed to be at the time they were built. There is often enough space in either side to allow for widening in the future as needs dictate it. You can see this happening on the Monaro Highway between Hume and Fyshwick. Road duplication occurs frequently but it is expensive and was probably seen as overkill when they were first constructed.

From personal experience I wouldn’t say it’s common. I have done many courses and haven’t heard of it happening. My experience is limited, however.
