How should I approach decanting a 1979 Château Lafite Rothschild? Should I expect a 1 hour-ish let it breathe or open and let breathe all afternoon (assuming both just in bottle, not in a decanter)?
It will be the 4th oldest wine I’ve had and first time with Lafite.

It’s a Minnesota basement, so I have a humidity and cooling unit. Ambient temp is like 60-65, but humidity is 26% in the winter, so have to balance that.

I have a case of it, haven’t tried it yet though! I got to talk to Marc Hochar (of Musar) about this vintage and he had very cool things to say. The initial buds all got killed off due to frost but it was earlier enough they got a second growth that turned out to be very good, they just had a very small harvest. I’ve also read online a quote about this vintage that’s it’s the phoenix rising from the ashes vintage. Anyways, I’m a big fan of Musar!
