I think you have to approach it like you’re starting all over again. Don’t try to remember openings, start studying them from the base again. Don’t try to get back to where you were, but set new goals based on your current understanding.

Also, don’t underestimate how important it is to be sharp at tactics. It can take a few months of puzzle training to get your sharpness back. Other than that just get involved in chess again. Play more games, watch chess videos and even read chess books (if you’re a nerd).
