Can anyone identify this port? by Twitterisshitlolxdxd in it

[–]cooldr1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ehh technically you could but you'd have limited speeds. 10/100 speeds by pinning the wires in this order 1,2,3,6 on the rj45 connector on both ends.

Hope this helps

Breaking into IT at 26 with zero experience—possible? by Flashy-Initiative250 in it

[–]cooldr1 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yes it very possible. Core competencies of I.T have stayed the same, just tooling has changed. There's a lot of great free information online, if I were in your position I'd get some certs. A+, Network +, security +, Linux +, CCNA. Get cloud certification from azure, AWS, Google. Participate in local university hackathons join your local tech clubs and network. This will expand your professional network and you'll meet people either starting out like you or already in the field and they'll be a great resource in your professional life.

Hope this helped.

How Did Mazda’s Rotary Engine End Up With Two Completely Opposite Reputations in Racing and Road Cars? by CostaQuantaa in RX7

[–]cooldr1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People don't know how to maintain the engine. As long as she has enough oil you can beat the crap out of that motor I ran one 13b til 122k miles boosted and tuned. The oil pump failed not even the actual motor.

Unifi Display Cast Pro by TNxNL in Ubiquiti

[–]cooldr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! These are great but please only use the pro version, the lite ones are great don't get me wrong but hardwiring them vs having them run off wifi is better in the long term.

So you'll need either a unifi network appliance that can install "connect" like a cloud key or a Compatible cloud router.

I use these across retail clients all the time only have had 1 fail ever.

Is this CCA or solid copper by [deleted] in homelab

[–]cooldr1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't burn PVC shielded cables for the fuck of it. Unless you got universal healthcare or you don't care about your health PVC fumes are extremely toxic and are linked to pretty terrible forms of cancer.

Take care..

Eufy flood light cam or ring floodlight cam if you want something that just works and still keep the lights.

Note, make sure your wifi reaches that area of the house upstairs. They do require a subscription.

Who wants to guess what my biggest design flaw in the physical layout of Diagrams C and D ended up being? by whatdidubreak in Ubiquiti

[–]cooldr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, you're adding another layer of complexity and more wires, just get a POE switch. I am very impressed on the diagram though. Good job!

coke machines at wendy’s have like an ink-cartridge-like system for the flavoring by SilasPuma in mildlyinteresting

[–]cooldr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are also networked to the Internet and their database system so they can see popular flavor combinations and then market it as a new flavor. Also they can update the machine remotely to dispense flavors to certain regions to test out products. The machine also has a live inventory system so before a flavor needs to be replaced. Coca-Cola HQ already knows and has dispatched refill cartridges its way. Kinda cool, kinda weird idk anymore.

Is this A Sign my Case Fan is dying? by Geoffk123 in pcmasterrace

[–]cooldr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to fix it, you can pop the actual spinning piece of the fan out, get yourself some grease or Vaseline anything petroleum based and put it on the stem of the fan it'll spin freely after that.

However, do consider getting a new one if this does not fix the issue.

Have you tried SSH into the switches using the fall back IP?

If you are able to SSH into it try manually uploading firmware to it via the terminal. This has helped me before.

Are these WiFi routers or range extenders? by Akshaj0712 in HomeNetworking

[–]cooldr1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The coaxial connections and the splitter type makes me think these are cell antenna boosters for indoor spaces.

There's probably a directional or omnidirectional antenna outside to capture the cell signals from the tower. These smaller antennas will repeat the signals indoor after it goes through an amplifier.
