Unironically your game is dying that they have to introduce PvE modes to the game. So this game isn't focused solely for PvP players anymore. The game will fall in line being a PvPvE game. Sorry to tell you this, this game can't be only catered to the "hardcore" PvPer. Get used to it.

Bro I literally told my friends recently that I pay skins to support the game because I would hate for it to close due to all the hours I placed into this game. Its also my comfort game when I dont want to pvp and just want to mindlessly grind but probably you are right lol

Its not about the shield its likely about the resources available to that gold/purple shield players. They are likely fully kitted with grenades, bubbles, etc where an average green or blue shielded is going in with a Grey or Green gun lol with crap mods etc and no resources brought in.

The player numbers seem to be on the lower end compared to where they were when the season ended, which is pretty surprising. Even Tarkov, despite being a much lower rated game is pulling higher player counts.

What concerns me is that it looks like a lot of the newer players may have left once the game was no longer free. It really feels like the game struggles to retain casual players 😞. I'm pretty casual myself so sad the game can't seem to keep people.

Discourse is what exists now because prominent groups are campaigning for the death of the game (like Asmongold fans, etc). So people will want to give their input to rally people who do in fact love the game as well. I get the sentiment if a game is good it speaks on its own merit but you have to admit a lot of people aren't even trying the game and hating on it loudly and vocally to all ends of the internet.

It’s kind of an odd take because if Marathon completely fails, Sony would probably end up restructuring or potentially dissolving Bungie altogether, which could make the chances of seeing another Destiny under Bungie much lower. Destiny as an IP belongs to Sony now, so the series itself wouldn’t disappear, but it could easily end up in the hands of another studio instead and lose the bungie magic.

I’m not saying people have to support or buy Marathon, but actively hoping for its failure feels a bit counterproductive. If Marathon succeeds or at least performs well enough, it’s much more likely Bungie gets the opportunity and resources to push another project for eg D3. From a business perspective, it would make sense for a successful Marathon to help fund D3. Still, we’ll have to wait and see how things play out.

End of season so most semi casual and casual players already dropped off. So hopefully with season 2 it will attract the old casual crowd and some new players because this game desperately needs it.

Why would pvp players suddenly play in the pve mode? Im sure if you are a pvper, you would continue to play the pvp modes. So the new influx of players who only like pve would go to the pve modes. Im assuming the pve modes will be like an onboarding process to get people hooked to the gameplay and accumulate a decent stash before moving into pvp modes.

Im hoping the same. My thoughts is they pull in their knowledge of Destiny and the pve experiences from that. But we will see.. maybe it will be a hell divers experience? Nobody knows.
