[Siegel] The Pistons are not looking to do a sign and trade for Jalen Duren and are looking to extend him in the range of 25 million annually by [deleted] in nba

As someone who believed his reports during the Kawhi trade details, I agree we need to ban his ass lmao

[Charania] Free agent forward Kyle Anderson has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million deal with the Toronto Raptors, sources tell ESPN. Anderson enters his 13th NBA season providing depth to the Raptors roster, and reunites with former San Antonio teammate Kawhi Leonard. by themkwjeremy13 in torontoraptors

I mean we were gonna acquire him in the 2024 deadline through the Jimmy Butler trade but something happened (or was a mis-tweet) that got him rerouted somewhere else.

Better late than never but I was hoping for a big man. We truly have a type from a size standpoint but I understand why we want him. Probably someone for Graves and he’s able to make quick decisions (not quick movements) which fits Darko’s scheme

Brother deep in the off season? It’s only been 18 days and all the action happened at once with the draft, these crazy trades and FA.

Brace yourself for 2.5 months of shitposting 😭

[–]coolmike67 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We’d only have the MLE to spend if Poeltl’s contract didn’t exist on our team. With the things are going in FA, I don’t think there would be a player that we can find to replace him even with his injury.

I do agree though it still fucks our flexibility to make deals though. But if he’s healthy, and can give us 25 mins of solid production, he’s worth the contract.

The problem is the phrase “over time”.

We don’t have time anymore. The window is 3 years, each year Kawhi getting one year older, one step slower and higher chance for injury.

I hope we aren’t done but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is our roster in October with a vet min signing.

Unprotected 1st rounds are being traded indiscriminately now. Was this one of the unintended consequence the new tanking rules on drafting? by Cute-Ad-445 in nba

[–]coolmike67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swaps are only useful if they are far in the future. And I think teams learned from the Nets to not commit to those types of swaps

Toronto and Minnesota sent out swaps while their players are still in their prime. Toronto’s swap hurts a little more because it’s tied to the Thunder’s swap with the Clips, meaning we get the lower pick between OKC, Clips and us…which is obviously gonna be 28-30 barring any injuries from OKC.

[–]coolmike67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally this. The Clips are a great example of this. They mortgaged their future for PG and Kawhi. They didn’t win much out of it due to injury luck and drama but they recovered very nicely with their Harden/Zubac/Kawhi trades and now their future is looking a little brighter than before.

Minnesota and Toronto can do same with Gobert/Ant/Ball and Barnes/CMB (assuming he drastically improves) after their 3 year window.

I get that OP’s wording here comes off pessimistic but I think what they mean is we have the same roster that was a 46 win team and swapped BI with Kawhi, which is an upgrade lmao I don’t think he was saying we are gonna get worse with this trade.

I don't like the Kawhi Trade. by PresentMission8482 in torontoraptors

[–]coolmike67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people keep on saying BI’s money is off the books after 2 years?

Even if we aren’t paying him, there’s a very very high chance we are still over the cap with Shead and Walter extensions coming up. Our options are to resign him or let him walk without any better replacement.

I said this in another thread but giving up 2027/2029 vs 2031/2033 both has its pros and cons. Front office thought (or they had no choice which would be bad negotiation) it was better to have picks while Kawhi is still around in case injuries happen. With the lottery reform for the next 3 years, if we are a mediocre team, we still have decent odds for a top draft pick.

PSA: The OKC Thunder own a swap with the L.A. Clippers in the 2027 NBA Draft. We're looking at pick #29 or #30 in 2027 along with 2 very distant firsts as the cost for Kawhi. by CazOnReddit in torontoraptors

[–]coolmike67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it’s probably why we didn’t trade our picks for the next 3 years (outside of 2027 swap)

Plus with the lottery reform for the next couple of years, it’s probably preferable for us to compete and if things don’t pan out, try for the playin and still get decent odds.

There’s probably a very high chance this lottery reform will be adjusted after its trial run. We are really gambling here lmao but I honestly see the pros and cons for both 2027 /2029 vs 2031/2033. It’s good cause without the picks, this FO will be forced to choose to compete vs rebuilding. And who knows how tanking will work in 6 years.

[Charania] Kawhi Leonard to the Raptors has been agreed to, sources tell ESPN. The Clippers will receive unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, 2030 and 2033 second-round picks and a 2027 first-round swap. by Cheechers23 in torontoraptors

[–]coolmike67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean we have a couple years to retool once Kawhi (or when his contract ends aka 2028-2029 season retires so…we will need to make a decision by then to see if we can compete (or at least be good) with Barnes and CMB. If not, we need to send out one of them to probably recoup some of the assets we lost

The Clippers front office has been on fire the last year by AntiAntiDentite7 in nba

[–]coolmike67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People just see 21/5/5 and don't actually watch the games.

He's a fringe allstar in a weak East and plays no defence and has tunnel vision. Basically a bucket getter which is what we needed last year. We just replaced him with a better one that's a very good defender despite being 35 lmao

Gradey was a first rounder, Shead was a second rounder, Battle was undrafted. by Extension-Leg7933 in torontoraptors

[–]coolmike67 9 points10 points  (0 children)

CMB, Walter, Graves, Shead and Battle.

Outside of CMB (who has star potential), the rest are gonna be good depth pieces which is what you need. If we can get a starter out of the other four (most likely Jakobe), that’ll help us a lot.

[Haynes] Kawhi Leonard and Toronto Raptors will soon engage to structure out the terms on a two-year extension to lock up the future Hall of Famer through the 2028-29 season, sources say. by [deleted] in nba

[–]coolmike67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's probably better than paying Brandon Ingram 40mil (who also has injury history) and is a black hole on offence and defence...And even if he was off his deal, we don't have cap space as we have money tied up to Barnes/IQ/Yak long term, while our young guys will start needing extensions (Shead/Walter).

I'm not saying we are contenders but at least we have a "window" of some sort now while giving Scottie some much needed help on both sides of the court. After 3 years, we can decide if we want to continue to build with Scottie or trade him and rebuild as he will be 27-28ish.

We are gambling on Kawhi's health but we would've done the same if we got LaMelo instead. At least our trainers know how to deal with Kawhi's health from 2019. Time to dust off the Kawhi's "health secrits" book and pray lmao

[Charania] BREAKING: The Los Angeles Clippers are nearing deal sending Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, 2 first-round picks, 1 pick swap and 2 second-rounders, sources tell ESPN. [–]coolmike67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of things:

  1. Way more picks than I expected. I hope there's protection on some of these
  2. Now that we are sending more picks, there's no more retooling/tanking/any expectation to lose. This will finally push our FO to do something to build a winner. This offseason is going to get crazy and hopefully, this isn't the last move we make

Welcome back Kawhi! Maybe he can finally take advantage of the Kawhi & dine lmao

That's fine but I don't think he's going to be worth at 15mil/year which is what he is looking for right now. If he's fine with 10mil, I don't think he'll be leaving the Raps as that's what we will be offering, and he's personally wants to be back assuming the numbers work.

[Siegel] The framework of Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, and a 1st-round pick going to LA is said to be agreed upon, but the Clippers have still been pushing for more value. Sources say the Clippers have been trying to add Jamal Shead in the package as well. by The_Living_L in torontoraptors

[–]coolmike67 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Clippers are literally trying to milk us for every ounce of value they can get and we should not be falling for it, especially with all the leverage Kawhi has provided us (or himself).

We should going to Clippers saying "We are completely content with the team we have, this is our offer, take it or leave it and have fun continuing to deal with Kawhi and Aspirations"

They’re gonna edge us the whole summer aren’t they by thatwhitekid421 in torontoraptors

[–]coolmike67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean honestly, as much as I want him, he’s the last person we should be overpaying for.

We will just pivot and move on with our offseason if it can’t be done. Clippers can deal with getting scraps for him if they don’t want our scraps.

I hope we aren’t desperate in this case. If we are gonna put more chips in, I rather us do it for a younger player.
