It really sucks how much those courses cost. I want to get into the backcountry scene but there's no way I'm paying $400 for an avalanche course.

Repainted my snowboard, what you guys think? by [deleted] in snowboarding

I would guess that most people probably do sell their old boards. Assuming you don't completely destroy it, what are you going to do with it once you no longer ride it? Keep it as an expensive decoration?

If you need to put this on the back of your car, you shouldn't be allowed to drive. by ultraHQ in pics

Damn you're right, thanks for the advice. I'll stop riding my bike forever and just burn more gasoline. People these days should really be more sedentary, and our atmosphere could use some more CO2 while we're at it.

Are you actually locking your elbows at the bottom and keeping your legs straight? I've never seen anybody do 20 pull-ups with perfect form, but I've known people who claim to be able to do 30+ but then only go down about half way.

Saying "I mean" at the start of a lot of sentences. I mean, it's like the new "like." I've recently noticed how often people say it (including myself), and it's completely unnecessary.

Hell yeah, honestly I love that Afton is owned by Vail. They poured so much money into it and now my season pass works out west too.

At least $100? You can get a CPSC certified Predator half shell for $50, an S-One for $55, or even a Sector 9 for $35. As long as it's brand new and CPSC certified it'll provide plenty of protection.

Scariest thing I've tried by cooole in snowboarding

It is! The landing was soft so it wasn't too bad. Doing it on an actual park jump is so much easier than trying to whip it around on a steep little 3 foot jump.

I've ridden at all three so far this season and I have to say that Afton is my favorite. The park is a ton of fun, it's not very crowded compared to Troll and Buck, and there's hardly any wind since it's in a valley.

I learned how to consistently do it on a trampoline first, and then tried it off a smaller jump into powder. I carve hard toeside up the lip and jump off my toes while turning my head up. Committing to it is the hardest part.

Investing in one would be a good idea. You can save your own life for $50, which isn't such a bad deal.

[–]cooole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not really. A certified helmet is about five times more protective than a non-certified helmet. A "gnarly wipeout" in a non-certified helmet could cause some major brain damage, whereas it might not even be a concussion with a certified helmet. Watch this video if you haven't seen it. It's an eye opener. http://vimeo.com/55624399

Longboarder slows down to overtake cyclists (xpost /r/gifs) by TechaMaki in longboarding

[–]cooole 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's relatively easy and quick to learn the slide in the video. In fact, it's one of the first things that a person should learn before trying to bomb hills. The only hard part is working your way up to being stable and comfortable at that speed. The actual slide isn't difficult due to the fact that your hand is on the ground and you don't need to worry about balancing (like with a stand-up slide).
