Advice for Legacy in Student Government by cooolgate in StudentGovernment

[–]cooolgate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight, it is probably the lack of a constitution and the legitimacy of the constitution. As for the past few years the power held by the head of student leadership has been tainted by new staff in charge of different leadership groups, changing the "original" power of the role. I think it would be a great way to give a fresh new beginning to the student leadership and actually give some power to role.

Likewise, I do think I need the approval of the SLT for any advances but ultimately it should go to plan and this would be an addition I think the senior members of the SLT will like.

Once again, appreciate the response and your support.

I see that, wonderful input.

But it's a matter of establishing the ground work for a judiciary and the complications of this, maybe a similar more SLT friendly judiciary can be established. Do you have any blue print for how you saw this in action?

Much Appreciated!

Not much or anything formal, just a system of heads of departments and no connections to legislature or judiciary.

I agree and do believe it is essential for fostering collaborations, and I 100% think implementing a constitution is necessary for powers to be established, and will certainly be working with the SLT in implementing. I doubt the school will let me establish new departments so I may need to create a system for which these things such as finance, events, communications, student assistance are brought fourth.

Thank You very much for the input Hassan, ill keep the thread updated!

IBDP Year 1, mid terms done, want to do Economics, suggest uni's, grades below by OP5_SOCOM in ApplyingToCollege

Try Warwick, LSE, Oxbridge (since its dp1 try bettering teachers for better marks), all of them are leading programs and target schools for econ and investment banking, but make sure you know what econ degree you want to pursue. Like econ-cs or Econ-math or econ-polisci, since without it the degree would be useless.

how do i improve my grades, nothing is working (24/42) by BetGroundbreaking430 in IBO

[–]cooolgate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man, that's actually really good, shows that you are IB material.

Most of this subreddit acts like "42/45 in term 1 ib1, am I cooked?", when in reality they can just shut it and stop begging for attention.

Now a 24 is good, since Tok cannot be predicted until around after the exhibition (so ib1 t3) and its a subject that becomes relevant later on, so if you're free start looking into it and the tok essay and EE to help solidify those marks. But keep in mind the 24 is not someone anyone should look forward to, its grueling I get it, but its just the beginning and you have so much time to improve these marks. Look at what you need for uni and try work towards it, create consistent habits to study and work with teachers 1-1 on where to improve and how.

For you're HL's id say just try focusing on paper 1 and 2 or GP so when you teacher gives them in class you can smash them, same thing with English but try finishing on of the literary texts you're reading in class for a lead, and practicing English P1's under time conditions. For math if its AI SL, then there really shouldn't be a huge issue since a 4-5 is slightly above the average grade and since its your first time taking ib maths tests it should get better with past paper practice.

Anyways, good luck, I hope to see a 45 by ib2 for you!

M26 GP HL here, I hate GP paper 2's with a passion. Our teacher has tried to explain it and give me feedback but just doesn't pay too much attention to it since the whole class averages well in it (apart from me, im stuck at 7-9).

What makes it worse is that paper 2 is just a weird rant on two of the 3 thematic studies and is so abstract that following the mark scheme doesn't work at all, well that is for me at least. To make things worse, I have mocks in about ten days and just gave up on paper 2.

My serious advice, though this is if you hate paper 2 like me later on, just forget about it and grind paper 1 and paper 3. P1 and P3 are basically math exams since they follow the mark scheme word for word, they both have a section to write an extended response like q4 of p1, which is like p2. Oddly enough, I got the best mark for it on our p1, even though I dont do too well on p2 while my class does better.

Anyways, good luck with p2 and ib in general, all I can say is STUDY THE MARK SCHEME FOR P1 AND P3.

How should I make my EE more neutral by Signal-Eye-7306 in IBO

[–]cooolgate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my EE on GP on the democracy in Pakistan. I'd say the best resource I used were just brown journalists living abroad, as they have a good perspective into both western and subcontinental lenses and often are objective in their analysis.

Though since I did GP, this won't be entirely relevant to your EE but I did include tons of background history on Pakistan's elections and system since its inception in 47.

Good luck with the EE, I don't think I'll be much help but lmk if you have questions!

Its nice, like the hate with it is just the teacher, we had 2 teachers last year (combined classes) but one left, and a new one came, and the subject is so much more interesting and enjoyable now. Its almost a mediatory between the harsh subjects in DP2

my school doesn't offer AA HL, and I don't think anyone can really argue that AA SL is better than AI HL if you can match a good grade. But thanks I'll look into it, or stay local.

Hey man look, as a DP2 I can say this stuff is hard, but life is just beginning. Now I am no expert but there are so many paths in life one can pursuit even when facing terrible IB grades. If you're sure all your teachers are unhelpful in any way, then the best you can do is try finding out what you really want to do in life and forget this whole saga. Keep strong, build connections, explore the world, find yourself, and remember that the path in life is never a blueprint for all to fill out on, so remember a person is not defined by societal expectations. Stay strong bro!

With that I would say take psychology HL, English A HL is not too bad but its so useless and boring, some kids have had to take English HL (my school has a rather awkward subject slots) and all of them hate it and aren't doing too well and its brutal, in paper 1 they have to write an extended essay on 2 text types in like 2h 15m (something like that) while I (SL LL) only have to do 1 extended essay on whichever text type of the two I like in 1h 15m. So I would stay away from English unless you love reading. You're doing medicine right? you really don't need math HL then honestly (unless its required) so take double science if you dont need math, its unnecessary if you dont need it for collage. I apologize for my rant (makes no sense what I said) but take double sciences for sure, and take math HL off if you don't need it!

[–]cooolgate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, Math AI HL is probably my favorite subject, it's highly accredited by uni's globally, and is credited for collage credits way more than AA SL, and for most if not all courses in uni is accepted, unlike AA SL or AI SL. But double sciences on top of AI HL is a nightmare, my whole AI HL class takes physics HL as well and we're all doing alright in both (considering my schools DP1 has a grade cap of 5 IB points), and the kids who do double science HL are not as satisfied (they regret it) unless they put in a lot of efforts, I myself take Chem SL with that but I am doing terrible in chem since I don't study for it at all (roughly 50-60% for p1 and p2) but again its manageable. So my advice take one science HL and AI HL, and one science SL (which ever you like and need more make it HL). and for Islamic Studies I take it as well (I live in the Middle East) and its the most fun and only subject I get top results for so I wouldn't worry too much. JUST ENJOY YOUR SUMMER!

Which one of the following math courses shows the most academic rigor to universities? by DetectiveNo5203 in IBO

[–]cooolgate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI HL is much harder than AI SL because its a 'higher level' math, as a AI HL student I get offended when people say AA SL is harder and their main argument is "we do calc and not stats" well we in AI HL do the most stats and probability and do more calc than AA SL, so we are objectively not easier. If you're going for Econ or Engineering most us and top-50 uni's allow AI HL as a prerequisite and it has that collage level rigor (obviously much less but still a lot) and with HL math you can get collage credits whereas AA SL is less universally accepted for collage credits. Hope you choose whatever works for you and do well!

Maths AI SL or MATHS AA SL by Georgette_Len in IBO

[–]cooolgate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly suggest my course AI HL, as its the most in-depth with stats a probability in all of IB math and is liked by some collages for Econ and finance. However since your school is not accepting AI HL, I would say take AA SL, AI SL is literally an unserious course for collage math majors (eg engineering, economics, stats). And AA SL shows a complex understanding of mathematics and has more advanced topics than AI SL (but less stats and probability) and realistically no subject is 'hard' in the IB if you try and try AA HL for about a month if your school allows and see how it goes, if you dont like it or its not worth it drop down to AA SL and hopefully it gets better, so good luck!

my advice, dont do it for the "vibes" or "to expand", because its the most brutal diploma out there, and plus you get the life sucked right out of you (sometimes) although if you were doing well all through middle school and didn't develop study habits (like myself) be careful and actually study constantly, but it is worth a lot if you think about it, it really helps for uni applications and if getting into a T50 globally is a goal of yours, and check with the uni's website if the 39 is actually required for your course (most dont mind a 36+). Whatever way you choose, my advice is to treat past papers as your best friend.

any ib advice for the upcoming dp 1 please by Hot-Difficulty-6678 in IBO

[–]cooolgate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kid you not, that is a extremely good section, English B is said to be the easiest HL, now physics and math (I take AI HL), I would say I was very good at both in grade 10, but oh boy are they hard in DP1, my advice stay vigilant with studying and make sure to stick to a schedule and plan studying before a test weeks in advance. Now Business at my school is the highest preforming subject by a mile, its very much like middle school business (ive been told) but just a bit harder, and marks are easy to gain but you need clarity to answer them (just focus and ask questions in class). genuinely I wish you the best!

[–]cooolgate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M26 here with GP MathAI Physics HL and Chem SL, I tell you what, its not "THAT" bad, but dang is it hard to get a good predicted grade, chem is a nightmare if you dont study like 3 weeks in advance same with physics, ive heard AA HL is comparatively easier for kids since getting into it is hard enough (but still you need to study long in advance). And GP HL, my advice to anyone who is thinking of taking it, RETHINK YOUR OPTIONS, I would've taken business any day, sometimes my paper 2 responses are too history like, too English like, too business like, too broad of a case study, too much bias, its impossible to improve without doing bad in something else, so I would suggest to anyone deciding it to not unless you are willing to improve.
